...with spanish lyrics.

They have to be spanish, not portuguese. Also, I'd need the lyrics, if I cant get them on the web, I'd need them from you.

I'm going to present this in spanish class, so please only recommend songs that:
- Are non-instrumental
- You can sing along while listening to
- Aren't longer than 6-7 minutes
- Aren't boring to a pop-music-listener

I have a lovely cd of Cuban lullabies... they're all just gorgeous tunes, and work nicely with voice only.

Here's a link at Amazon...
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... 5?v=glance

The jacket has all the lyrics, but I don't feel like typing em all in. :) These are all traditional Cuban standards, so if you search around a bit, you might be able to find the lyrics online...

Here are the lyrics to Aurrurru.. one of my favs on the CD.
Duermete mi nino
Duermete mi amor
Duermete pedazo
De mi corazon

Este nino lindo
Que nacio de dia
Quiere que lo lleven
A la dulceria

Este nino feo
Que nacio de noche
Quiere que lo lleven
A pasear en coche

Los pollitos dicen
Pio, pio, pio
Cuando tienen hambre
Cuando tienen frio

La mama les busca
El maiz y el trigo,
Les la comida
Y les presta abrigo

Arrurru mi nino
arrurru mi amor
Arrurru pedazo
De mi corazon
Whether they'll keep a room of pop fans awake, I dunno... since they're designed to put babies to sleep. :D

Cheers,
-Garret

I'll second the Cuban music! If you are in Europe, I don't know what's available, but Ry Cooder has a CD, Buena Vista social Club that you could get easily anywhere in the world with some great Cuban music, lyrics included. Some of my most favorite music. If you are looking for pop music in spanish, you could check out Mana' - they are the huuuuuuge here in Southern Claifornia/Mexico, or Los Tigres del Norte for a more traditional style. Those two bands are huge, use traditional verse structures, and are famous enough to get their recordings anywhere I imagine.

You might want to look at Roberto Goyeneche's "Vuelvo al Sur." He has a tremendous, gritty voice, and the lyrics are terribly moving as well as funny. Also, he knows how to articulate and to tell a story when he sings. It's music from Solana's film "El Sur." There's also the terific album by Bebo Valdes and Cigala entitled "Lagrimas Negras." A cuban pianist, Chucho's father, meets a very talented flamenco singer, el Cigala. There's also a booklet of lyrics included. You might also want to look at music from Almodovar's films. I would also recommend very highly Ng La Banda's Cd "En la calle." This is the cd that started Timba music, and every track is excellent. The music is hot, all penned by Jose luis Cortes, and the lyrics are quite good for popular music, eg. porque tu sufres con lo que gozo? or eg. no puedes tapar el sol con el dedo. And all this shit is extremely danceable. Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, i forgot to add one thing. If it's a young audience, you might want to look at somethng by "los orishas." Cuban hip hop by a group living in Paris. Very catchy, well done, and puts gangsta hip hop to shame.

Thanks for the advice so far, just wanted to add that the audience is about 16-20 years old.

HipHop is nice in general, but it's hard to sing along it unless you're an MC yourself

Ian Brown has done a couple of tracks in Spanish IIRC...

Is there any spanish Trip-Hop? I listened to some Mana audio demos but it's far too emotional and "Celine Dion"-esque for my taste.

Anything like Portishead in spanish? Or something like that...
