With all the great technology we have at our fingertips these days, many of you may consider yourselves to be fulfilling all three of these roles, but I reckon most people will lean towards one role as their key strength, or at least be weak in one of these areas.
So how about you?
For the record I am a programmer mainly, in so much as I don't play an instrument, most work is done via piano roll, although I do sketch out riffs and sequences on my midi keyboard. I'm getting to grips with production too, but primarily I program stuff.

Im a player (just good enough to get by), also a programmer, though most stuff starts with playing and is programmed mostly in terms of modifying. Would have to class myself as producer as well, nobody else produces my stuff so it must be me
. Im a solo muso maker doing stuff on the computer, simply because I enjoy it.
PS what exactly does a music producer do? is there even a proper definition for it?

i know there's some lame fuckwits like DJ PeeWee Ferris and a load of those fucktard uk happy hardcore guys that are credited as the artist, yet someone else produces the music ... this i have never understood
do they just sit there, smoke some crack and go 'MakE A HoOveR SouND!'
if you are doing electronic music and don't produce your own songs, i can only assume you are a f**king idiot

You left out composer. Player and composer aren't necessarity the same thing. Plenty of people who can play instruments very well but can't compose, and then there are composers who can't play instruments very well.

Improviser, composer, producer I guess. I hate programming stuff and it's not a strong suit. I have to play everything.
