I Dont know, maybe other people know things I dont know or maybe I hold the truth in my hand and others are still seeking it.

What am I talking about ?
I've been reading users talking about tracktion, sonar, live , acid and etc. and etc. rewiring this app with this app...
What is it all about ?
I didn't test most of these hosts , I dont even know how they look. Thats because I think the only thing different in them could be the workflow, nothing else.
I Currently use cubase...
why would anyone would like to rewire any 2 hosts ? all hosts do the same, load VSTi, write your midi notes, maybe load some audio and etc.

I Dont know, maybe other people know things I dont know or maybe I hold the truth in my hand and others are still seeking it.

Shed some light on this... why should I consider using cubase with another host ? why to consider a different host ?

First of all, workflow is important.
Second, not all hosts can do what others can
But workflow is most likely the most important aspect (eventhough I love how Podium is designed, with automation and channel handling and so forth)

I don't know about other hosts (1st hand), but I do know that there's a new host coming out that is in fact completely different: Overture 4.

It's a notation program (at the moment), but when it updates to '4' (soon) it will become a VSTi host. Why choose Overture 4? Because of the interface: if you see music as notes on a scale (and most non-computer oriented/non-host oriented individuals do), and if an accurate, visual representation is important to manipulating your music (as it is for most of the population) then this should be your first choice.

Of course, many people on this forum don't 'see' music this way for a very good reason: they've been trained on a piano roll. And that's fine...more power to you. For everyone else...?

There are of course other, very good reasons to switch to Overture...but since I don't know 4's full functionality, I can't expand on that thought.

Yet.

Good luck! :D

Hm, i wouldn't like it because i don't want to be forced to think in scales. It's not that i'm that big a piano rol fan- i just think that the traditional way of writing music severly limits the way we think about it... But let's keep that for another thread...

I use two hosts: tracktion and logic- and i love tracktion to make sketches, and i love logic because of the easy and detailed arrangements you can make, the environment, and so on. I've never used two hosts at once, and frankly i don't really see the point neither, but having two hosts can be cool to change the way you think about a certain concept- just load the song in a different host and see if you get any ideas is what i do when i get stuck...

Well I only use rewire for Reason, which has some great instruments and sample sets, and cannot record audio or vstis. I use the FL studio Dxi since multitracking in sonar is more intuitive and easier. Otherwise, its just nice that you can load a project into a different host without much effort to let a different work flow inspire you...

Cubase / Nuendo does that and also other hosts probably.

Cubase does notation? I've certainly never seen any of that! Can you point me to a screenshot or featurelist or anything similar?

That certainly sounds quite interesting. Can you provide a link?

yeah i would never use more than one host, seems a bit over the top to me ..

not to mention it would mess with your CPU more
blasphemy is a victimless crime

As S A P says, it is certainly nice to run Reason inside another host... I use it in Live 4 and Audition all the time via rewire. You can bring together the best bits from two seperate applications, and in the case of the combos I mentioned, they complement each other well.

If you are on Cubase, you might not "get" this, because Cubase is designed to cover all bases. Not all programs aim to do everything... some specialise in certain bits (and do them better than the "jack of all trades" do )

yes, at least SX has a feature called "score"
I'd post a screen shot but I've got to leave now to set up for a gig and rehearse.

EnergyXT and Bidule are hosts that both work wonderfully as VSTs. This allows me to encorporate Bidule's parameter linking capabilities and wide range of MIDI functions with EnergyXT's performance oriented tools, like it's arpeggiator and envelope features.

Load cubase, there's a "Scores" tab, then choose "Open Selection" or simply press Ctrl + R.
