I just received my book about mixing and EQ'ing etc yesterday (from Amazon)... 1 day for reading and 1 day for experimenting
Anyway, it's a great initiative Torben, I hope it will result in many good (i.e. useful) presets.

I just tested the GAC-1 and - sorry to say - but it didn't knock me off my boots
IMO it's a bit too tame to really "shape" sounds, though it's a nice tool for mastering.
I noticed that there are sometimes sharp noises when one switch pachtes while audio is running, maybe an automatic "soft mute" funtion while switching would be good here.
Anyway, a well written piece of code and this contest is a nice promotion!
cheers,
Chris

It depends what you mean by "shape" sounds. The GAC-1 is primary intended for tracking though there are wirings for mixing / mastering. But one has to learn how the GAC-1 works in order to get the best out of it. Let me know what you where trying to do and I will see if I can guide you to a nice setting.Tonmann wrote:

Well I tried upload a patch for the contest and I got an error; like, wrong file type and does not belong to their product?
I saved a preset of my setting which came out as an effect bank file.
Oh, its not bad, I liked the stereo split setting.

Was it a .fxp file? What version of the GAC-1 was it for (Mono w. SC, Stereo or Stereo w. SC)?Rangtangtang wrote:Well I tried upload a patch for the contest and I got an error; like, wrong file type and does not belong to their product?

It's probably tricky marketing something that is neither $19 nor an emulation of some vintage gear or expensive plugin. The GAC presents special challenges, since, unlike say a reverb, I don't most people can actually hear compression & EQ very well. While I'm not one to go on about how great the latest plugin is, I do think GAC-1 is something special.
I don't have any patches cause, well, I don't really use patches for EQ and compression I guess. Just wanted to say, really nice work with this one.

Grist for the glamour mill.

GAC is really capable of some pretty sick stuff, thank god i've got a hint from someone
aka rktic. demoscener (Farbrausch, Holon, MFX, Still), sound designer, ux-dude, sth @AudioRealism, human synthesizer—not necessarily in that order.

Hehe, I already uploaded my preset, I was so amazed at the ease of use with the GAC so it took no time at all to make a great mastering preset from scratch! I had planned to spend the day with it, but there was no need! Fantastic work Torben
