What can I use to construct soundfonts? Something free preferably. I have drum samples that I want to map into a soundfont or DLS file.
Any tips?

Ok. None of those really worked for me. Vienna wants some stupid soundfont device, Megafont is a bit complicated to use effectively (don't even know how to put waves into a preset number!) and Sfzed is perfect... but its only for SFZ files.

Not quite free ($60) but Chainer exports to sound fonts (SF2) or .wav files.Acolmiztli wrote:Ok. None of those really worked for me. Also, Extreme Sample Converter 2.2 imports and exports sf2 and does bulk conversions. However, ESC is temporarily unavailable for purchase. I think an update is in the works.
Awave is another commercial sample converter that probably does SF2.

Hmmm. Might be interesting. I can make SFZ files and then convert them with chainer by loading in the vst. Cool, thanks.

It keeps crashing. Argh. This is really pissing me off. Basically I need something that will create DLS files. I couldn't find anything, so I was going to create soundfonts and then convert them into DLS files, but nothing is working for me.

Why didn't you say so-ESC and Awave both read and write DLS files.Acolmiztli wrote:It keeps crashing. Argh. This is really pissing me off. Basically I need something that will create DLS files. You could always you the Microsoft music development API thingy that includes a DLS creator. I stared at it once, doesnt seem terribly complicated. Are you trying to make DLS banks for a TB card? like a Santa Cruz?

Nah. I'm trying to make DLS files for Max/MSP - because, stupidly, the windows version doesn't support soundfonts. I know Awave can create DLS files, but my version keeps crashing on me. It converts things ok, but I can't save files for some reason.
