VitaminD wrote:so we are allowed to enter more than one preset???? If thats the case whats stopping me from making about 50 and saturating the contest?
pheeleep wrote:Exactly, it was one patch per person as stated in the contest rules. Now peeps are posting live 5 or 6 each, and the date the contest ends has been pushed a couple days.. Well, whatever's clever I suppose.. but personally, I think that those that posted more than one patch should just be evaluated on one of them.. Judges should randomly pick one out of the 5 patches and judge that one..

It's okay though, it's a bit irritating but so are many things in life :)
You are right. It also makes the voting process too complicated. You are of course welcome to post more patches but those who do will have to pick one out for the voting, fair?

snooky wrote:heheh, my mastering preset works on all source material and makes it shine!! no work needed, exept perhaps controlling loudness with the comp1 gain knob. I tried it with a lot of different tracks and the result was instant punch and highend defentition.
platinumears wrote:Humph. My mastering preset adds punch and definition, AND widens the stereo image..
You know... If this hadn't been a spontaneous and funny reaction to snooky's post, I honestly would have blindly believed you

I'd like to compete with my el_voco preset.
aka rktic. demoscener (Farbrausch, Holon, MFX, Still), sound designer, ux-dude, sth @AudioRealism, human synthesizer—not necessarily in that order.

Ok, here I go - my preset for the competition:

description which is also available at the kjaerhusaudio patch sharing side:
----
Ok, played around with GAC-1. Great for shaping slow drumloops!
Was using little overcompression with really low
threshold values (-30dB, -40dB); long attack on CO1
and short release on Co1&2 values. Some EQ increases
at the low end; some decrease around 180Hz and not
to forget the Noisegate with threshold -80dB (max.)! Really good to bring huge snares and cymbals to front!
Also like the dnamic changes in volume.
For me it's good for creating/shaping drumloops
for dub-like music (around 80-90 bpm).
----

The description at kjaerhusaudio has some typos. Sorry for that. :?
Hope, I will not get defaulted by that... :scared:

and here the hopefully useful before/after comparison.
The preset is
here.

And now, have fun! :D

*edit*: Forgot to mention, that I used it as a track effect,
so it's perhaps useful to put a limiter at the end or reduce the output gain a little. 8)

I just knew it, turn your head the other way for a few hours and nothing happens :D OK, OK, 20 contesters so far. Anyone else who dear to participate in our contest? 8)

No, it ends tomorrow.

It's never too late to upload good presets, even when the contest is over ;)

OK, I've had a go.

This one compresses vocals, and gives it that lo-fi telephone sound quality. A short sample of before and after is here. The patch is in the Kjaerhaus patch sharing area here, or the direct link to the patch is here
Time is an illusion - lunchtime doubly so.

OK, it’s last day to submit patches. Patches submitted after May 1 is not in the competition. We use the server date to determine that (New York time).

I see that some of you have posted before and after sound examples which is a very good idea to ensure people know what your patch are made for and how you intended it to sound. If more of you want to make sound demos but don’t have a place to upload them you can send them to me (torben at kjaerhusaudio.com) and we will host them for you. That way it is equal for all.

well ... not that what i did is in with a shout ... but if were doing audio examples ...

... drums then (i know - poorly sung) vocals ... in each case first without the effect ... then with with my lofi mangler preset applied ...

128kbps .mp3 encoding (approx 400Kb) ... how to misuse a perfectly good channel strip plugin

Hi Rob,

I like it, especially on the vocals. Cool plugin, cool preset.

All the best, FRitz

I made an audio example also. First you'll hear the unprocessed version and after that is the processed version.

The patch can be found here:
http://kjaerhusaudio.com/patchbank/file ... _drums.fxp

Here's the "details" form the patch sharing page:

Spice up your drum sounds and make them pump.
Works wonders for funky/groovy drum mixes of acoustic drums with bpm around 125 or so.
You can also try tweaking the noisegate's threshold and release parameters if your tempo is very different from 125.

Wide Smile

Audio Example: 8 bars of a raw mix-down, followed by the same section processed with just this preset.

Details:

This setting is designed for full pop / dance / rock mixes. It aims to add weight and punch to the drums and bass, reduce "boxiness", add a little "air", widen the stereo image, and bring up the level of reverb or ambience.

This uses the mid-side algorithm, with a slow-attack compressor setting on the mid channel, and smooth level control for the sides.

The mid channel has a slight boost in the bass, a mild cut in the low-mids for clarity, and a smooth Baxandall type boost for the high frequencies.

The side channel is high-pass filtered (so the bass is kept mono) and the mid-range is boosted for extra width.
