The other night, I tried out Asio4all v2.6 to see if it would work with my emu 1820m. I got some pretty interesting results. :D

I could run the card at 1.5ms latency with the driver which is pretty incredible for me seeing that I was never able to get it down to 4ms without the pops and clicks crapping all over my recordings. So to get it this low is some down right exciting schit!

And get this, if you just install the asio4all driver and do not uninstall the existing emu driver and patchmix software, . . you can call up the effects off the patchmix mixer using the asio4all driver which in theory, you should also be able to do this with the powerfx vst plugin though I haven't done it just yet.

Now for the bummer. Even though I can run the driver at 1.5ms and call up the efx using the patchmix mixer over asio4all, no vst/wdm host will reqconize the dual mic pres when using the asio4all 2.6 driver.

It's a big bummer but I have to say that I am very, very, very impressed with the quality of the driver it'self. It has been very rock solid and I have not run into any pops or clicks using it. I anticipate that the developer will perhaps eventually get to fixing this . . . hopefully (gulp!). From what I read over at the asio4all forum, he's a really a kick azz kind of guy and a good man. :)

So for now, the work around for me is that when I am composing music within cubase using vst's and efx, I will continue to use asio4all for that part of the process, then freeze the tracks at which point I'll then switch over to the emu driver and record any live vocals or instrumentation.

I hope this info proves to be helpful for any tormented emu 1820 owners. As for me, even though it's not totally there yet, the asio4all driver has lowered my stress levels considerably.

Peace,

Interesting. When you say it doesnt recognise the preamps, what d'you mean? It doesnt list inputs 1 and 2 at all?

asio for all is a wdm driver - so you can get one in and out on the 1820m

but you could use the sends on the patchmix to send all the inputs to the wave l/r option - but only one at a time i suspect
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.
