Hey hey kids,

I posted a thread about this a while back but got little help so i thought i'd try again.

I own the Live 2 delta version that i got with my soundcard, and was recently emailed by ableton offering upgrade to Live 4 Lite version.

Unfortunatley as i used to own live 4 full, but sold it on, i can't seem to clean it out of my registry fully etc and so when i try to install live 4 lite it gives me the full version!! I'd like to try to use the lite version for Djing, but i feel dodgy using the full version.

Any thougbts how to clear out my registry to just get lite version?

If not, is it ethical, under the circumstances, for me to use the full version but resrict myself to the lite version retrictions such as 4 tracks and few fx etc?

This sounds so ridiculous but i try to be good with licensing etc, and i don't want to take the piss by using a version i'm not entitled to.

Any help appreciated :)

Unless Ableton ask for their upgrade back, why complain? And didn't you try to ask Ableton via e-mail if that was the correct upgrade that you were suppose to get?

BTW, isn't Live 4 Lite almost the same as the Live 4 Korg Edition?

I suppose that depends on you Quincy, I would try to contact them first, if they don't respond in a reasonable and timely manner then I would assume they were looking the other way, were a poorly run company or just didn't care...but for my conscience I would have to make a reasonable attempt to rectify the situation. If they didn't respond that's their problem... 8)

Similar situation happend to me. Way back when, a friend of mine and I decided to get him a new computer, since the monitor/CPU of his last computer (Mac) was totally messed up by the magnetic waves of his way too close speakers. We also were going to go half & half on the latest ver of Logic 4.0 at the time, and pass the dongle key back and forth depending on who was working on what riff. He had a problem with his ver. in that key was for a IBM. You can guess what happened. He called to correct it and they sent him one for a Mac, but also one for an IBM. He called AGAIN to have them take back the others and they sent back another Mac even though we didn't ask for one. At this point he had spent more time working with them correcting this than getting his music done, so we kept the Mac dongles and split them instead of passing it back and forth. We'll I eventually got new gear (G5-Logic Exp 7) so I could be more independent, but for years I used the key, because we did so in good faith. 8)

It raises a good question. I do a lot of my work using demo soft gear and free plug-ins, many plug-ins which I got from this site. But that's what demo gear is. So you can try it out and see if you want to upgrade or clear the disablers. I'm currently seeking all of the authors of demo gear I've truly used and are putting them in my liner notes or paying those who asked for contributions, before the album comes out. No prob. Bible says, honor to whom honor is due. And these guys and gals are pioneers. :D Un-sung heros of waveform processing :!: Messing with some registries can seriously tank your system and I don't think that's what the designers had in mind. My humble opinion, you've been more than honest and need not worry. Restrict yourself if you must, that's ok...or save up and send the money in for the full. A DJ friend of mine entered the BT contest for LIVE and get the demo free to participate. He's done so much with just that free version and he's been using it ever since.

did cleaning your registry and re-installing ableton lite not work?

Live 3 hasn't worked correctly for me since I installed the Live 4 demo -- so I'm back to using Live 2. Maybe you can consider yourself to be using my upgrade.

I've emailed ableton so hopefully get an answer on monday or tuesday. Be nice to use Live 4 lite if its decent, something to play with :D

Well, ableton got back to me with some advice, and i've now managed to get Live 4 Lite version working just fine. On first impressions it seems bloody good for a freebie update, and despite lacking midi control ought to be a bit of fun for DJing type duties, includes multi-soundcard support and limited FX usage etc :D
