I suspect you'll find something very simular to what you're looking for on the installation CD of your Audigy.

Here's a really small one:
http://www.synthfont.com
Scroll down to where it says "What can you do with a 1MB GM SoundFont like SynthGMS?"
It's a 1MB GM SoundFont.

On the cd you'll maybe find 1mb to 8mb GM fonts. For anything poshy, its going to be a big download!

This is a rather good resource, right here on on KVR
More than just GM, in there, but there are plenty of GM sets listed.
If you go off the principle bigger (probably)= better, then Fluid3 might be the best I've personally come across, but I haven't used a full GM set for anything for ages.
I actually do sometimes use the S J Orchestral GM set which has some surprisingly good strings etc. Doesn't have the full GM set though, so may not be any good if you're playing back .mid format songs.
I think I downloaded it from www.hammersound.net ages ago.

This ones from hammersound is fine
Rocking SoundFont (8MRock11e) [8MB]
PS I bought the Jan Hammer soundfont from
Soundfont.com §9.95 and it´s great.
PPS. If you are using anything with VST, then You just have to get a free SF player. And then you don´t have to think about the size
(If you have enough Ram)

well i managed to get the KWGM from sf2midi,which was quite nice, the MerlinM22 from personal copy, which was big but only some nice sounds, some cheesey.the 8ROCK11le seemed to be my fave, nice and loud.i found my limit(about 25mb on dial-up)on downloading.spent 2hours on some then got disconected, some sites wouldn't let you use your download manager either so it was back to square 1
.
anyway, thanks for all the tips,it did give me some standard banks to test things out with.i guess it's all down to personal taste, and if i can figure how to mix and match, then i can make my own fave GM...anyway,i think i need some crazy shit after all that generalness.
