I've mapped for a couple of minutes, the samples are just numbers that coreespond to short, medium and long...it'll be a pain in the ass as far as I can tell.
The armchair is more than the sum of the bastards

got them all now 398MB/ 18845Samples but fully sick filenames, no use for mapping..

I don't know if anyone will read it but I posted here:

"The file names don't help understand what's inside, so something like a simple text list which would show the name vs note and articulation would be a great help"

Maybe you want to bump it.

I'll bump it in a while. I swear I could hear the wind whistling and the tumble weed....tumbling when I went on that forum :)

Nice one --JT-- for downloading the samples. I might wait till they publish them in a different format, with hopefully better file names.

thanks for the link...i downloaded the full orch samples assuming the large wav files are the highest quality samples
overthrow KRAPITALISM ! you have nothing to lose but your claims.

i sf'ed the banjo if anyones interested. . first time making a soundfont,.all i did was removed the blank spots in the beginning of each sample, converted them all to wav, & threw em all in vienna sf studio. i dont know if i mapped it properly,.,kinda just put all the files in.. but it plays. its about 20mb.

You could upload it to http://www.sf2midi.com/ then we can see if its worth doing that with the rest of the instruments

I have made a cross reference for the "Phrase" samples.

Get it here

It can be opened as a spreadsheet or a text file. I hope it helps. Not sure I can do the "Note" samples :?

mmm... and how (where) i can download only the phrases and not the note samples?

Post

I've been trying to map these, and they sound ok after decompression, but the numbering scheme (or complete lack thereof) is hopeless... I downloaded the entire samples directory, and the numnbering is completely random. This is a serious pain, because there is no consitency to the articulations... for example sometimes you'll get a random amount of takes per articulation, which throws off the pattern. Otherwise it could be done by ear. If someone wants to collaborate on this and make a list of articulations-to-filenames, lets go. Some of the sounds are really fab, like the solo strings. The "phrases" java interface could be used to make a list of those samples (by selecting, then hovering mouse over "save file" link and looking at the sample number)... then the single notes can be done by ear.

Someone was smoking crack when they named these files... somehow these random numbers are linked to the java interface. No idea how...

Anyway let's get these great samples mapped and uploaded for all to use!

Post

steveholt, thanks for the cross reference... it should help quite a bit. Once the phrases are taken care of, plus the considerable amount of random stuff not even in the interfaces, it's a matter of sorting the plain "notes" into random amounts of short medium long and random dynamic levels

Quick question for anyone... the mp3's are either 96k or 64k... what do you think is a good sample rate to decompress to for each?

Post

Isn't the sampling rate of an mp3 already a feature of the data? It should decompress to a specific bit depth and sample rate (usually red book, I thought).

Am I wrong here?

I'll email them to see if they would realease the original wavs if they have them.

Edit: someone else asked on their forum about this, i don't know if it was one of you.

They are planing on releasing packs and high quality aiff samples of the instruments. So wait till then, i'll keep an eye on it and give you a heads up
Great, then i could play them on a mac that i dont have. :(

[edit] please noone chime in and say... "No! You can play aiff in such n such sampler!"..

I dont give a shit.. I cant play them in ext so that all that matters to me.
The following statement is true.
