Project 5 weirdness

I just got Project 5 today - I bought it with the intention of upgrading to V2 which is free. However it seems buggier than my cellar. It took me ages to even load it as it just bluescreened me every time after the first install so I decided to go straight to the Cakewalk site and install any updates - it's now on 1.5. I was then able to at least get it to startup (annoyingly it loads on a readymade project - not with a bank slate so you have a load of crap to delete just to get working). Then I tried to open the audio dialogue to change from the wdm driver it defaults to to asio but everytime I tried to open it I got a blue screen. Eventually after a series of about 6 reboots I got it to open by changing my Scope project to XTC mode. It then allowed me to open it and change to asio but then when I opened it again it informed me the audio driver was still in use (it wasn't). I closed Scope and switched back from XTC mode and this time Project 5 loaded properly and ran with the asio drivers but now everything is really quiet. I have tried turning up the volume on the synths that come with it and what passes for a mixer but it's virtually silent and I have to turn up my hardware mixer a long way to get much of a sound at all. Anyone else had these problems? How do you get it to make a sound?
Right now I'm thinking more about sending it back than upgrading to V2.

Definitely check out the ReadMe file, since it explains a few of these problems that you are experiencing.
For the record, v2 is a huge upgrade over v1.5, and I wouldn't base your opinion of the product on v1.5. All indications point to v2 being incredible stable so far.
To start with a blank project, just clear things out and save this view as a template. Or, assign MIDI Remote Control however you like, add in whatever default synths/effetcs you might want to use, then save a new default template file. This will allow you to start the program however you want to.
For the quiet audio output, you'll need to check your bit justification settings in the Audio Options screen.
Also, you'll find the official Project5 forum very helpful for answering these types of questions, so don't forget to look over there.

Ah yes - changing the bit settings has fixed the volume problem - don't know what it means but it works. Thanks for that.
OK - I'll give V2 the benefit of the doubt - it does look good on paper - but what a bad start - I've never had so many bluescreens in a row.

HI
You obviously have something unusual going on there!
Why not try the V2 demo?
Flipper.

Blue screens are almost always an indication of a hardware driver issue, so make sure that your drivers are current.
And, as original flipper has suggested, the demo version will allow you to test your hardware against the new version. However, I don't think it includes the Dimension synth, so you'll be missing out on the best part!

Yeah, version two demo is awesome! Best windows audio engine I have ever seen. Nice and smooth. No glitches in sound when switching windows or adding effects and synths. I'm a Sonar user that can't wait to get the same audio engine in Sonar and when Cake Walk decides to make it available to the rest of the world, I am definitely buying!

Project 5 v2 is a pretty good concept and I like it (but don't love it)
I have been using the demo for a week and it doesn't crash but there are a few issues however. Cracking occurs after a while and is only fixed by reseting the audio engine. Scaling windows is sluggish
Cakewalk and their forum faithful always say it's the drivers for this that and the other but what I don't get is that all my other stuff works perfectly well with the set up I have.
What makes Cakewalk stuff so sensitive ?
I am not knocking Cakewalk or Project 5 v2, I am genuinly curious
Thanks
