Nice EQ plugins from URS but u need iLok. What a pity. :(

Post

The thing that galls me is you need an iLock to even DEMO them.

No thanks...

'aimed at the professional market'
How long will it be before the lines become too blurred to really know the difference between pro and amateur when it comes to these kind of tools?
Not that long methinks..

Yes, the demo even needs iLok  - I bet the sound cuts out every 10 seconds and usage is limited to 2mins.

It seems that URS can't be making enough money from the so-called 'pro' market otherwise they wouldn't be releasing native versions for us lowly 'ams'. When it comes to profits exclusivity often falls away - look at Burberry.

I swear 'aimed at the pro market' is just a euphemism for 'has lots of really niggly frustrations/limitations' in VST land. Shame mind. What I've used of Urs' stuff is wicked (Windows Filterscape beta, MFM).

Post

Something puzzles me more:
LBT has 2 bands, where each of them are at a fixed :!: frequency, and it cost 99$. :!:

Did I miss something? :?

Careful there.. don't confuse "URS - Unique Recording Software" with Urs Heckman U-He software... :? Urs is the man !

He should sue them for developing audio software plug-ins under his name :) !
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

And we should be grateful it's now half price! :uhuhuh: I'm lovin' it... :hihi:

No, the demo lasts 10 days and works like the full version.

These plugs are so good, it's worth the iLok thing. BTW, I have zero problems with the iLok.

I take it the Nuendo/Cubase dongle doesn't count? That sucks, I'd really love to try these out!

What a hoity-toit policy...why would you buy an iLok, for $40 US, if you didn't need one? Another USB slot gone. At least Nomad Factory was kind enough to put in emulation drivers so you can demo their plugs. Seems odd to cut out so many potential buyers...but at $300 a pop, I guess they can afford it.

Have you tried any of their plugins? How do they compare to other native EQ's and the DSP EQ's? I'm interested in how they stack up against Sony Oxford, UAD-1 Pultec and the TC Poco EQ's. There's also Sonalksis, Voxengo and Kjaerhus.

The ilok thing doesn't bother me. Just buy an ilok . . . they're cheap. The upside is, you get a fully functional demo.

The URS plugins are pretty great. The neve EQ in particular, on guitars in particular, does something I've had a hard time getting elsewhere. I think I've tried or own all the plugins you've listed except the sony, and the URS is still something I reach for a lot. Most guitars, sometimes a vocal, sometimes anything else . . .

Surely you are not suggesting you effectively pay $40 for a demo?

I've owned API 550b EQs, so I am more than a little bit curious to see how the plugs stack up. But not enough to shell out $40 just to demo something I may not even buy....
