problems when recording voice in FL: clicks. please help!

Hi, I hope you can give me some advice:

I use FL Studio in my Pentium IV 2.4Ghz, ram 512, soundcard: terratec dmx 6 fire.

I'm having some problems when recording my voice into FL. I've been 2 years doing it, and sometimes I get some clicks and pops when recording my voice. this annoys me a lot, because not only spoils some good vocal takes, but causes me distress when singing (because my mind is busier thinking the take will be spoiled so i sing with insecurity)

What may cause the problem? The songs don't necessarily surpass 50% of cpu usage.

My latency is set to 7ms. May that have something to do with it? what latency would you recommend me?

Couple of things spring to mind (problems I've had myself).

Electrical interference from fridge (turn it off).

Print Spooler Service causing CPU spikes (disable it).
