It's just ridiculous! $40 to try a 10-day demo. Pffffffffft.
Now if I hear that iLok is going to replace everything and it's necessary, then sure.

iLok is like Betamax - it's already redundant.bduffy wrote:Now if I hear that iLok is going to replace everything and it's necessary, then sure.

i don't see how ilok is like betamax, ilok hopefully will become the standard and we'll have all of our software on ilok, just one dongle for EVERYTHING and no more challenge response or authorization codes to enter every time you reformat or change a motherboard. it's just rediculous.
Digidesign's TDM systems all come with an ilok and now all the m-powered m-audio cards are coming with an ilok, waves supports it, antares supports it, I think it's going to become the standard.
i can see why someone wants their demo on ilok, the ilok for mac is still not cracked and if you release a full functioning demo without ilok it will be cracked easily

I really don't see your dream coming true. It seems to me that any CP will be cracked so iLok is already redundant on PC. $40 for a protection system that doesn't work is like paying for chocolate bars on the windows after you're house has been robbed.jasonsantiago wrote:i don't see how ilok is like betamax, ilok hopefully will become the standard and we'll have all of our software on ilok, just one dongle for EVERYTHING and no more challenge response or authorization codes to enter every time you reformat or change a motherboard. it's just rediculous.

Unless it breaks, and they do that sometimes.I think the downtime in your studio will bother you then like it did for my friend for 3 weeks waiting for Emagic to ship one from Germany.I don't consider downtime due to a plastic piece of crap to be very proffessional at all.bobby yarrow wrote:The ilok thing doesn't bother me.

That's why you have a zero-downtime option with iLok...Very professionalAlan wrote:Unless it breaks, and they do that sometimes.I think the downtime in your studio will bother you then like it did for my friend for 3 weeks waiting for Emagic to ship one from Germany.I don't consider downtime due to a plastic piece of crap to be very proffessional at all.bobby yarrow wrote:The ilok thing doesn't bother me.

I have the VST ones and I also have a Powercore w/Sony Oxford and 2 UAD-1's with Pultec Pro.munchkin wrote:Have you tried any of their plugins? How do they compare to other native EQ's and the DSP EQ's? I'm interested in how they stack up against Sony Oxford, UAD-1 Pultec and the TC Poco EQ's. There's also Sonalksis, Voxengo and Kjaerhus.akisd28 wrote:No, the demo lasts 10 days and works like the full version.munchkin wrote:Yes, the demo even needs iLok- I bet the sound cuts out every 10 seconds and usage is limited to 2mins.
These plugs are so good, it's worth the iLok thing. BTW, I have zero problems with the iLok.
I think the N is unique: indeed, it does something on guitars that no other EQ plug-in does; it's perfect for boosting hi-mid/treble frequencies and leaves you with a big grin! It's definitely COLOURED. It's my go to EQ for hi-hat, ride and overheads.
The A is far more transparent, I always use it on kick and snare. I've come extremely close to its sound with the Oxford, but it's much faster and more convenient to use the A when you want that sound - I use the Oxford for more complex tasks or when I want totally transparent equalisation.
For surgical cuts, I still use TC EqSat. The Pultec Pro sees extremely less usage after I got the URS.
The URS plugs are extremely CPU efficient - 130 stereo instances on my Athlon 3200XP+ at 88% load says it all, I think.
Keep in mind I've never used the hardware units they're modelled after.
Regarding the other plugs you asked for a comparison with the URS, I've tried the Sonalksis, which I found it was close to the Oxford, but not there; the hi-end was different. I like the Voxengo ones, but they're totally different, I don't think they should be compared with the URS. The Kjaehus again is Oxford like, but not equally good I think. Maybe the Sonalksis is a bit closer to the Oxford from what I recall, but I never had the chance to compare it side by side with the Kjaerhus.
PS: I find the iLok really convenient. I wish I could have all my plugs' licenses in that little thing and take it with me wherever I go - that's the downside of the DSP cards I use.

Just go buy Hydratone for a fraction of the price. It sounds better to me and is infinitely more versatile. On the other hand, the URS EQs are way more efficient than the Hydratone in terms of CPU consumption. I would take quality over quantity though...

Believe it or not, I was on the beta team for the hydratone and could buy it for 70 bucks, but I actually didn't bother with it after I started using the urs stuff. Convolution based eq sure can be a nice thing, but it lacks the level of detail in the sound good modelling (at 96 khz) can provide atm imo. I'm looking forward to see what the future will bring regarding convolution based eq's, though.

No shit!!!Careful there.. don't confuse "URS - Unique Recording Software" with Urs Heckman U-He software... Confused Urs is the man !
I was thinking this was the famous Urs from U-he.
Any way I'm glad someone cleared this up.
something should be done about this.
ps I don't have any U-He software, but I respect the guy, after following some of his threads.
