Somebody posted a good bit of rut busting wisdom on Ableton's forum a while back. He said that his father told him that when inspiration has run dry, the best thing to do is have a wank and a really big glass of water.

It's never worked for me i must admit, I keep spilling it all over my uc33. (water that is)

But this is a place of abandon, a great shrine to the admission of defeat. Who wouldn't want to shine their dildo, given what we can't affect?

Do what you have to do, you should be entitled to a say as much as any of this herd, but don't be shocked when the result proves futile.

To the original post, if you don't enjoy making music, don't. It's not like it is important for you to do so, and there is no sense forcing it.

Perhaps focus your energies elsewhere. Like xoxos suggests, maybe try to make the world a little less brutal a place.

back on the original subject - i think taking long breaks from composing have never hurt hy ability - in fact i think it's like playing guitar - you know - you find that your subconcious mind has been practicing all the time since you last put the thing down..
i do my best work after i meditate and do breathing exorcizes for a while.. and looking back - the songs that impress me the most now were things i made while contemplating and/or trying to express insights about complex, important issues and elusive concepts..
if my mind was confused or dull and i just tried to make something sound good - it would lack enthusiasm and effort on my part..
so = ya - only work on things when you feel like it..
