I'm not so impressed with those. The thunder samples seem like they are badly clipping in places, and seem like they might have artificial reverb added. The "Hard Rain on Concrete" is not really hard rain on concrete, but rather moderate "runoff" onto concrete. In other words, it sounds like water dripping of the edge of a roof or other structure onto pavement, which is not the same thing at all, as rain directly hitting pavement. The "Wind Through Leaves" sample sounds like a capture of a garbage truck compacting trash in a downpour.

pannewb, how long do you want your rain recording to be? Do you just want pure rain? Do you want some thunder included?

I might be able to come up with something for you, but it might not be in stereo. You can add appropriate reverb to give it a stereo effect, if you need.

I have unedited omni directional mic recordings of thunderstorms here in Georgia. Some even have air raid sirens and public broadcast announcements telling the public to seek immediate shelter. PM me so I can send these to you.

Im working on a track's 2nd version... give me about 20 min to finish and upload.
all of those recordings are on the lo-fi side, I kind of like that.
give me about 20 min, like I said, and you can see what I am trying to do.
thanks for the generous offer, lunarhalo :)

curses on my dialup connection!
looks like it could be a bit longer than expected.
basically, its piano against a backdrop of rain. the Rain on Roof is working decently, but it is a bit short.
you can find the first version here

it is slightly ambient

2nd version is uploaded.
You can find it in the same spot as the last
The Music cafe post.
Take a listen and hear the shortness of the rain sample...

I would be interested to know what sort of technique you used to record those. I've recorded some thunderstorms here in West Virginia. It's a tricky thing to capture. I want to capture the actual storm, and not any rain spilling out of gutters, rain hitting the roof, no extraneous dripping noises, no wind noise blasting the microphone, etc.

Also, it always seems like I miss out on the really noisy storms. It seems like I'm never at home for those. My M-Audio Delta 1010LT is also sensitive to the electrical discharge that lightning radiates. I often get an irritating "Pfft!" noise just before a thunder crash. :(

My old Diamond MX-300 soundcard did much better in that regard, but it wasn't nearly as good as the M-Audio card in any other way.

take care,
McLilith
