Question: if it is aimed exclusively at the "Professional market," why do they care if it gets cracked at all? We've been led to believe that the warez users are the lawless and the great unwashed, so surely no one worthy of the designation "Professional" could be such a type?
And surely then URS wouldn't care if fifteen year-olds were using a cracked version to impress their fifteen year-old friends, because URS wasn't selling the plugin to them anyway. Oh but it's the principle of the matter you might say. Right, sure it is.

the URS stuff looked nice from the beginning, but i just don't have the usb ports to spare for an iLok. nor the money to spend on that just to spend even more on plugins. for my needs the UAD-1 and Tritone plugs are enough for me and sound fine. as far as the BLT plugin goes, between the UAD pultec and tritone's valvetone, i really don't need another 2 band eq anyway.

I didn't realize that if in a middle of a session if an I-Lock was damaged that another one would seamlessly appear and the song would keep on playing uninterrupted. How much extra is the Star Trek Transporter option?BorrelNote wrote:That's why you have a zero-downtime option with iLok...Very professional

Pretty much, that's just what I did. Had wanted a plugin version of the eq section of a 1073 for a long time, and the $40 didn't seem like that much of a bite for (nearly) what I was looking for. Maybe I'll wind up using the ilok again, who knows? I remember having to go out and buy a dvd drive to install some samples a few years back, thought it was wasted money, and that turns out to be required for loads of stuff now.MickGael wrote: Surely you are not suggesting you effectively pay $40 for a demo?

No, you won't. If this is so important for you, you'll have a backup key, getting temporary licenses within a few minutes. That's how it works.mmenta1 wrote:Alan wrote:I didn't realize that if in a middle of a session if an I-Lock was damaged that another one would seamlessly appear and the song would keep on playing uninterrupted. How much extra is the Star Trek Transporter option?BorrelNote wrote:That's why you have a zero-downtime option with iLok...Very professional

I dont see why they can't do the same approach at TriTone i.e. building installers for users. Fair enough that it can still be shared/cracked etc but come on. The whole iLok thing is a bit OTT.

I don't agree with all of this URS bashing because of their choice to use iLok copy protection.orangesuite wrote:I dont see why they can't do the same approach at TriTone i.e. building installers for users. I own Waves, AutoTune and URS and all of them use iLok.
I consider Waves, AutoTune and URS to be professionally written software that was originally written for Pro use. It is great to use software that works day in and day out. I think that it is good thing whenever Pro software becomes available for us native guys. When I pay for software it upsets me when others get a cracked version for free.
I don't care for Pluggo. As far as I am concerned Pluggo plugins are buggy should be free. I have never been able to get any stability or from pluggo plugins. Plus I do want my native CPU power all used up by an EQ. I want to use my reverbs.
BTW why is it always the same three people jacking every other thread with Hydratone?
I bet they got their Hydratone for free.

oh, i didn't have one single mayor problem with hydratone in my projects?

i got my hydratone in the mac groupbuy, it works absolutely wonderful for me in logic pro 6, same for valvetone. haven't had any issues with the runtime version of pluggo, nor the plugins, no crashes, nothing. in fact, i get more problems from my UAD-1 card than i do from the tritone stuff, so take your pluggo hate and stuff it. i've also used all the waves plugs extensively on many many projects, and my UAD and tritone plugs sound better and cost far less.I don't care for Pluggo. in all honesty, i have nothing against iLok and companies that want to use it, the only problem is that it gets played off as if you aren't "professional" unless you have an iLok key and use plugins that support it. and really, with all this advanced copy protection, you'd think these developers could afford to LOWER their prices since the products are so secure with the iLok. yet they still charge far more than other developers for plugins that simply have the word "professional" in the description. waves is the worst at this -- their EQ/compression/reverb is mediocre at best, yet it's some of the pricier stuff out there. although, if the URS stuff is what everyone says it is, then by all means, let them charge as much as they do. i suppose it all comes down to whether you want to pay for a brand name or pay for a quality product.

I'd love to test out the URS plugs for a trial period, but you need to buy an ilok key just to test them out.
What's the deal?

I actually wish all developers would move to ilok, or at least support it as an alternative. It's not perfect, but having all my authorizations in one place would make life a lot easier when I need to wipe & reinstall.
Grist for the glamour mill.
