Exporting MIDI in FLStudio

I have fl studio 5(but the same crap happens in 4)and I can't seem to figure out how to export MIDI files. Every time I export them and drag the files into energy XT, new tracks are created, but all that shows up is the name of the midi tracks but no data. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here. I basically want to get all my midi data from fl into EnergyXT so I can work on my old tracks in Xt.

in FL, copy your midi data to a midi out channel, then export. if you've just got the midi in a generator/VSTi channel, it won't export. i had the same problem until i realized that. you may also need to "enable midi output" but i'm not sure about that.

you also need to create a midi out channel for each plug-in , and copy the midi data to it ...sdv wrote:I've tried that on numerous occassions and never had any luck... always comes up with blank info. Vexing!!Hink wrote:tools>misc macros>prepare for midi export

ah soooo.... gracias! I'll have to get into the manual and see about how to do it (i.e. create a MIDIOut for a generator).normal wrote:you also need to create a midi out channel for each plug-in , and copy the midi data to it ...sdv wrote:I've tried that on numerous occassions and never had any luck... always comes up with blank info. step two copy from the source
step three paste in the midi out...

DOH!! I thought I was going to have to set up some kind of routing (like for a custom controller or one I had created for the DS404). Glad it's this easy.Hink wrote:step one channels>add one>midi outsdv wrote:ah soooo.... gracias! Thats one thing about FLStudio, the simplicity of things. And the fact that anything in FLStudio can be controlled by pretty much anything. That gives you endless posibilities.

Well, I got the midi imported into EnergyXT but for some reason every time i put the cursor at the begining of the song(or it loops to the begining of the song)the patch of the vst's i have on the midi channels goes to the first patch in whatever bank it is in. There is no program changes anywhere in the midi file...anyone know why this might be doing this?

in the browser you ca edit automation, chances are you have it set up to initiate the song with that preset, either delete that from the event editor or in the midi out channel set the patch selector to what patch you want and right click it and select initaite song...
