Why am I obliged to record, when only I want to play the clip and find the right groove by playing araound?
How do I play without activating record in clip session mode with Live?
And there is no option to move around notes in piano roll edit???

You can move notes around in edit.
You are not obliged to record.
If you run a scene with clips armed they only automatically record if you have it set that way in preferences.
Disarm your tracks and you won't be recording.
You better spend some time reading the manual. Or check out the book Live 4 Power. Worth the price.

OK. From the channel strip, deactivating "Arm" and turning on "On" in the monitor section allows for listening to keys triggered from the keyboard..
But now I can not listen to what I am triggering together with the previously recorded note on the same channel???
How do I listen to what I am playing together with what I have recorded on the same channel strip??
Please, help. Yes, I have read the manual and played around with the options but cant seem to get it happening.
This is the only thing I nead real help with guys, I would apreciate your help greatly.
Thanks

I am not sure this is possible - I think each channel strip can only play one clip at the time.Mr Sleep wrote:How do I listen to what I am playing together with what I have recorded on the same channel strip??![]()

I am still not sure of your question, Mr. Sleep. When you say "channel", I think what you mean is "track" in the session view (where everything is vertical). Don't bother with the Monitor On, keep it on Auto.
You can have the track armed (the red record button at the bottom) and be playing a MIDI clip (by pressing the arrow on the MIDI clip). You can record on top (without erasing those MIDI notes/signals) by pressing the button OVR at the very top. (In what is the sequencer) This will allow you to listen and record further notes.
By the way, I tend to do most of my editing in the arrangement view. (Where you do the audio editing) You can drag your MIDI clip into the arrangement view (or copy it using Control "C" if you have a PC) and then Control "V" into arrangement. Then you can press record and play in the sequencer and erase over your notes (by not pressing OVR) or adding to your notes by playing MIDI (while pressing OVR). Make sure you have your track armed again. (In the arrangement view that is all the way to the right.) When you have your track just right you can drag the clip back into session view and do whatever looping/warping you want with it.
Reread the parts in the manual on editing clips and in arrangement and any parts on recording.
You can move notes by unclipping the pencil at the top and then pressing on notes or dragging a group of notes where every you want them. (Up/down/left/right)
Good luck. It's easier than you think.

Thanks feysay OVR did the trick.
Beleive it or not, till now I didnt even bother with the quickstart, that helped a lot more for now.
It feels a little tricky getting use to a new protocol coming from logic.
Are you an avid live user?
Did it feel tricky when you were starting out too?
I would realy like to get use to this, there is a lot of goodies in here.
For me, recording parts that start on the beat is pretty
simple and easy to form a bar out of, but when it comes to those spontanious musical inputs that dont start on the beat and are a little random, it gets a little tricky (a bit of a guessing game) to form the bar loop!
In Logic & other hosts it would create the bar automaticaly so you dont have to worry about encapsulating the form.
Maybe there is something Im not aware of here???
Actually I started off using Live from the arrange window and did not even click to me about clips!!! Which
what Im very excited about.

I wouldn't call myself an avid Live user. I'm still in training too. I put most of my efforts into guitar and voice (and amps and PodXT Live). I tend to not use loops too much. I use loops to create some musical ideas.
I've used Operator a bit, but most of my MIDI is done in Reason 3 and rewired into Live.
It shouldn't be difficult to create easy loops that are any amount in length. Of course, you can quantize any inputs or notes that you already have if you want them to be perfectly in tempo. Since you have Logic experience, I'm probably not telling you anything you don't already know. You'll learn how to do everything in Live that you could do in Logic.

The overdub button is the key to live recording in session view... you can create a clip, set the length while other clips are running, then hit overdub... then you can continue to add notes, or take them away in that clip as the other clips are running, as well as change the length of that clip relative to others that are playing ...which essentially will give you a million variations of one clip in the composition! Cool!

Thanks for your help guys.
Im still discovering Live, its an awsome product on many levels and hope it will soon replace Logic as my main host.
