I would never suggest anyone buy a UAD-1 DSP card for the native CPU savings. Although, that is a very nice bonus. It is for the quality of the plugin algo's, which, in most cases, especially with the classic vintage plugins, there are no native equivalants (LA-2A, 1176LN, Pultec EQ, Pultec Pro, Fairchild 670, EMT PLate 140). The plugin algorithms are so DSP intensive, that a UA tech was quoted as saying that if they faithfully ported their plugins for native VST, it would only take 4-5 plugins to bring a G5 to it's knees. Cripes, I can run 16-25 UAD-1 plugins, (I have 2 UAD-1 cards), on my puny (4) year ol' PIII 1Ghz DAW and my total native CPU usage, is less than 10%AKJ wrote:I do don't see the advantage of having to buy a seretae card for my fx. better invest the money on a stronger cpu and native plugins.
If UA ever did port their plugins to VST native (which I doubt), people would be complaining how much CPU they consume
.....and I've got (2) DSP cards!
