This seems like something that would have been addressed before, and I'm sure it has, but my search of the forum lead to 60+ topics without one sounding like the answer to my question...I also checked the Fruity Loops manual but didn't find a solution.

I'm writing a song that changes from 8/8 to 6/8 in Fruity Loops...is there a way to change the project settings between the two mid-song?

I have a solution, but its not good for song writing...I made two separate .flps, one in 8/8 and one in 6/8. I exported a wav of a beat in 6/8, then inserted it as an audio clip into my 4/4 piece. It seems like there should be a better solution. Can anyone help? Thanks!

It's quite easy actually... I posted instructions for this just a few days ago, let me find the post and I'll edit this one...

Edit: Btw, this is the wrong forum, you should've posted in "Hosts" ;)

Cool. Oops, I'm sorry about that.

Thank you very much. I searched for "Time signature, Fruity Loops", "Changing Time Signature", with Search for any terms or use query as entered and Search for all terms. After looking through about 40 pages, I decided to post.

I'm just pulling your leg ;)

Your mistake was probably using "Fruityloops" and not searching in the Hosts forum... a search for "FL Studio time signature" in Hosts would've yielded a result on the first results page.

Cool, man. Thank you very much for the help. I'm switching away now thanks to you!

The best way to throw a 3/4 pattern in a 4/4 track is in the piano roll. make the 3/4 pattern in the PR so the measure ends after 12 16th-notes. Then, select the whole thing, hold shift and drag it so it meets 16 steps in length.

I wish there was an easier way to do this in FL. It's very easy in reason. Hopefully I'm wrong and there is an easier way?

Post

Uhh, yeah, the easier way is what I just helped him to! Did you even check the thread I linked? It works just as fine whether you use the pianoroll or step sequencer and there's no need for stretching or other weird things...

Post

you just told him how to change the length of a pattern. If I understand correctly, he wants to be able to change the time signature just for a measure or 2? If you just change the number of beats in the counter in the pattern window, you're just adjusting the length of the pattern, not changing the time sigature at all. You can not automate the time signature either.

Unless you're using FL Studio as a VSTi. :P

Doh... you're right aren't you? A bar in 3/4 is just as long as in 4/4.

It's 5:05 am so I shouldn't even be trying to think about this, but if you go from 4/4 at 100bpm and want 3/4, wouldn't the simplest way be to shorten the pattern like I suggested and then adjust the tempo to 75bpm? That way you have natural places to put your notes in pianoroll or stepsequencer, but the bar plays in the same amount of time, thus changed time signature?

Argh, I'm too tired to think straight, feel free to embarass me if I my thoughts have gone all the wrong directions.

i think maybe the easiest way to do this is simply to use a snap setting of 1/3 beat or 1/6 beat in the piano roll.
this statement is unprovable

Oh, for sure... except the step sequencer looks the same, and at least I personally do all drumprogramming in the stepsequencer.
