Groove Agent is more suited to classic drum styles, but does have a limited set of techno loops. Reason would be fine, especailly if you enjoy programming stuff from scratch. Me, I prefer messing about with precut loops rather than programming - so I'd give stylus RMX a look, or buy a sample CD and throw the loops into ACID or ableton Live!

Hi, and welcome to KVR. Have you tried the demos? There's nothing quite like putting your paws on the software to give you ideas.

I use and love Reason, don't know anything about Groove Agent so I can't tell you about it. But I could wax rhapsodic for hours about Reason's take-all-you-want "smorgasbord" approach, excellent CPU efficiency, healthy (and growing) choice of modules, ultra-flexible signal/cv/gate routing, and the new sound libraries. The new Combinator is very handy... and that's the understatement of the year.

Give the demo versions a try, play around, see what suits you best.

Good luck!

save money, stay on SX2 and try the sonic charge µtonic demo http://www.soniccharge.com/download
groove agent is a joke, also u have SX2 - a world class sequenzer - therefore reason is dispensable, I would better watch out for another VSTi e.g. z3ta+ to have everything you need in your SX2 system and start making fat techno songs without borders. Don´t waste money!
Induljon a banzáj!
