I couldn't find anything in the T&Cs re: quotas, is this 40 tracks the limit then?quincy wrote:And the price is right, I pay $9.99 a month and get 40 tracks
I see they've got some darn cool stuff like the Thrill Jockey roster... 40 tracks a month just ain't enough...

No thats just the level that i signed up for, its the cheapest one. There are subscriptions at $14.99 and $19.99 a month too i think, and you can buy top-ups whenever you like too.GaryG wrote:I couldn't find anything in the T&Cs re: quotas, is this 40 tracks the limit then?quincy wrote:And the price is right, I pay $9.99 a month and get 40 tracks

that's what I've got..the best money I spend on a subscription for anything (not counting the broadband, of course)3*s wrote:RealRhapsody
10 USD a month, as much legal music on my computer as I want, almost instantly. $.80/song I believe for a cd burning.
It's catalogue keeps growing, although I'm not sure if it's esoteric enough for the tastes around here.
I mean, I still can't find half the stuff Scot Soliday mentions.
emusic is great, it was the the first I signed up for.

Must say, I've just signed up for the free trial with Emusic and I'm loving it. Just downloaded Suicide's first album for pittance. Thanks for pointing this one out folks!

about eMusic: How do I know if they have what I could be looking for without subscribing? I mean, there's nothing said about content except for few short mp3 files.
thanks

one more question:
some mp3s were encoded with 128kbps and some with 460kbps. why? the difference is obvious.
thanks

Don't know really. I think it's up to the copyright holder. I think 128 was chosen by some to encourage you to buy CDs,
Everything I downloaded in the past was 192 as far as I can remember.

That's interesting. Everything I've had so far seems to be --alt preset standard. I just assumed it was the default. Shame it doesn't tell you what bitrate things are in.shamann wrote:Don't know really. I think it's up to the copyright holder. I think 128 was chosen by some to encourage you to buy CDs,

Also, I haven't come across anything with any form of DRM yet, which means I can burn to CD as often as I like (wasted a few of those cheap Aldi CDs my parents got me for Christmas). Does anything on there have DRM? Guess I won't be downloading from major labels anyway though.

Emusic is mp3 only, so no DRM. They do have a notice if the bitrate is 128. I vaguely remember not downloading something from Mille Plateaux for that reason (maybe the Akira Rabelais disc from way back?)
