I am about to build an extension to my house, one of the rooms need to be a bomb shelter  so I thought of using it as a home studio, mainly for creating computer music, very few recordings maybe. I have 6" active monitors already.

The question is: what is the minimal size such a room can be to be useful as a home studio (mostly mixing). The ceiling will be probably 2+ meter (~8 feet). I don't have much space so I need to know what will be the smallest possible space from an acoustic point of view and then I see if its also convenient for me...

thanks

In the land where missiles from Iraq used to visit in 1991 so there is a law from 1992 about these rooms, but look at the good side, this room has thick walls, window and door so it should be great for a studio :-o

For years my studio was 10' x 7' (as seen in my spectacular bra shot).

This is not a gratuitous booby shot intended to excite or inflame!

All that you see was stuffed into a 7' x 7' square with 8' ceilings (plus some stuff you can't see). I left the 3' entry into the room for guitarists. It tends to look a bit larger due to the parallax effect from the camera lens. Believe me, it wasn't!

Just remember, walls and ceilings can be used to "rack" or hold equipment. The floor isn't your only option. I mounted my monitors from the ceiling, angled down with "C" brackets which allowed aiming them as needed. Coupled with headphones, I managed a few decent mixes in there.

If you're strictly computer based with a controller, you'll have plenty of space with a shelter sized room, both in speaker placement and family safety. You'll just have to take some time and tune the room as needed.

I had a great time in that confined space. Actually, I miss it somewhat.

Not from wearing women's clothing so much as the ergonomics of it all! :hihi:
