Hi,
I’m a hobbiest of both graphic design and music composition. Actually I have a not-bad knowledge in both fields. Anyway, I searched the market need so far in my hometown and found the following vacancies as a part time job (a teacher of Graphic design ) and (a sound engineer in a big studio – pays more). Both have the same working hours and the same advantages for me. One question I need an answer for though, which of the two could be easier in the long run?

Thanks for your insights :)

Ahmed

Hmm... I guess it depends mostly on whether you prefer to work with people or recorded sounds...

Just pick the better paid one ;)

well i would choose to be working on a sound studio, because it is more inetersting for me as i don't know nothing about graphics ...

i also think it's more interesting because you can meet more people, work on their "work"
wheres i see graphics more alone at home in front of the computer ...

weel after all you should think yourself about that question, i think most here would naswer studio engneer as it's a audio related forum ....
why don't you just make both ??? is it impossible??

Post

are you applying for both?
blasphemy is a victimless crime

id say go for the teaching (but then i MIGHT be biased slightly there) ...

... seriously though ... if youre creative and enjoy a bit of autonomy and a challenge then try teaching ... the sound engineering might get you some industry contacts and access to some cool audio gear but you WILL be at the beck and call of somebody else all the time i guess ...

i'd go the sound engineer route :D learn lots, make the contacts then set up your own company..

better scope for earning more in the long run

Both could be nice, but it also matters whether you're a people person, empathy, social skills, 'authority' (not sure if that translates well), and as rob said, autonomy. Do you like to help people grow? Or do you want to become an expert?

Or the more important criteria: Which jobs results in contacts with the most pretty women? expensive cars? monthly pay? ;)

Pretty Woman ? None of them :-)...

Hi Ahmed,

I would say that the teaching job heavily depends on the fact WHO you're teaching. Kids? Adults? People who really want to learn the stuff?
On the other hand the audio job: Do you like what this studio is doing? Are they cool?

Why not dream for an hour you would work in that studio? Then dream another hour that you would be the teacher. Then you most probably will have a clearer view of the situation, seriously.

All the best, FRitz

Hi Ahmed!

I'd like to teach - you get to interact and share with real people instead of sitting in front of a mixing desk all day???

Best of Luck!

$$$ is better. You can always do the other as a hobby.
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

Hi ahmed,
I guess it depends on the person you are as to which job would be best for you.
but I wonder should you be asking yourself

which is easier...?

or

which is most rewarding...?

I'd prefer the mixing desk and the $$$ (although nobody is going to pay me for mixing :D). Teaching means you have to deal with people all day long, who are irrational, moody, whining, don't understand a thing and blame the teacher for everything they don't understand... ;)
