Isn't this an illegal selling of reason 3 on ebay?

How can this person get away with this! I have a legit version of reason 3. Maybe I should sell keygens for a tenner!

Its common practice on Ebay these days to sell illegal crap like that. Unfortunatly Ebay only spends soo much time on dealing with the problem and usualy only shuts down an auction if its reported and makes it to one of their people who check those reports in time. They are just overrun with warez and scams these days. Just another reason I am more and more leary about dealing on Ebay anymore...

If you're a registered Reason user, there's a form on the Props site that lets you submit the number of an eBay auction that you think involves an illegal copy of one of their products. This one appears even to admit that he's selling illegal warez, with a weak disclaimer (which entirely disregards that he's also violating eBay's "prohibited items" policy).

There's a link for reporting illegal objects and whatnot on EBay.

cptgone, I've used that. Unfortunately the eBay violation reporting system isn't worth a wet slap. They rarely, if ever, actually investigate or shut down even the most obviously illegal (and eBay-rules-violating!) auctions. What's more, their time frame is 36 hours, so short-term illegal auctions can run to completion easily without any risk of being caught. :-(
The only people eBay will pay attention to are the actual copyright holders, so to get real action, you have to contact the people who are being ripped off.

Assuming the Props are notified in time, they contact eBay and tell them to cancel the auction. Because Propellerhead hold the copyright that is being infringed, they have a powerful legal position, so eBay backs down.VeXKoN wrote:suppose this person does get reported to propheds, what will propheds do?

This pisses me off too (see http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... light=ebay for my rant a while ago).
The bottom line is as stated by a number of people - the only hope you have of giving any grief to the pillocks who sell this stuff is to get the copyright holder to lean on eBay. Us mere mortals (who provide eBay with 99% of their income) have very little direct influence.
I could draw a timely comparison with the imminent UK general election but that belongs in Hyde Park Corner

Derek.

Thinking about it there is one approach which might work. What would happen if a group of people set up a load of eBay accounts and then used them solely for the purpose of bidding on items which are very clearly illegal copies of software (i.e. the ones where the vendors are stupid enough to say so) to the point where the bid price rose way above the retail price of the brand new software?D-Fusion wrote:Btw. He is selling a powermac G4 to with Reason 2.5 Installed.
I say lets find out where he livesI could have
some use of his Tv, and maybe a new sofa
Once the auction closed the owner of the account could just refuse to pay ("I've just realised this is illegal software" would be a good reason). If the vendor complained to eBay they'd be highlighting the fact that they were selling illegal software (and were, therefore in breach of eBay's terms).
Even if eBay for some strange reason didn't spot this and shut the purchaser's account down there would be plenty of others which could be used for the next time.
If the vendor leaves negative feedback then who cares - if the eBay accounts are used purely for these spoiling tactics then it doesn't matter.
I don't know if eBay can take money from your Paypal account without approval, but if they did then I think a quick lawsuit would be coming their way (and I'm sure the industry heavyweights would support this just to set an example!).
What do you reckon - could this create enough hassle for these pillocks or wouldn't they care??
(I'm looking forward to bidding £600 for the cracked copy of Reason

Derek.

I saw some probably illegal stuff last week. I contacted the developers and they then contacted ebay. That would appear to work better than reporting directly to ebay yourself.
