An official announcement is in the pipeline but in the meantime Tube Amp fans might want to check out http://www.polarity.com/gxstack.htm. We'd appreciate any comments.

Best wishes.

Tested in Chainer and SX 2

Some gui parts(lower)doesn't show, couldn't control rev time and delay mix, maybe cos GUI probs not showing controls, and noises while tweaking amp controls.

Sounds more controlable than T2 to me,nice tube tone, always liked it.

Shame I have tons of delays, chorus revs to pay for more.

Well keep it up guys maybe the next.

We tested against SX, and will try Chaine. Which one gave you problems ? You should not get any noise when tweaking amp controls. Thx for the input.

limitations in the demo?

Post

I have tried the demo, and well, some of the models sound ok, some of them not quite good. (I must say first that I may have too high expectation from a 40 $ plug-in, but I’ll try to be honest and say something useful) I am not sure if this is enough value for the money considering that some of the models do not sound much better than some of the freeware amp simulators. On the other hand 40 bucks is not much money. So....

I am not sure if preset savings demo limitation is a good idea, actually I was in a mood for making some presets, but it got in my way. As this plug in is not too complicated, it does not helps if someone wants to abuse the demo and replicate a preset he was using the other day he has to tweak just a few controls anyway. So removing this limitation could help to me and some other people to make some presets, in case you need them. If you don’t, than… well, no problem

Any was, GXStack sounds to me ok with medium gain amp models, but it fails in delivering more extreme gain settings, MetalHead model has not enough definition and sounds too overdriven to be usable, and lacks in attack component of the tone, in similar way as Nomad Amp simulation. It would just disappear in mix. Also, I had problems to make nice ringing fender tones, it seems that plug-in always sounds a bit distorted, I can't get this "pushed clean" sound like when you turn gain on fender amps on 6 or 7. Also medium gain amps crunch, overdrive and bulldog, they all sound too similar to me, have a similar character, like it is a one amp model with different gain settings.

Any way, it is a usable simulation, but it sounds to me like it can be improved quite a bit, especially in heavy distortion settings (and I know it is hardest thing to do) , and in cleaner settings.

Wishing you all the best with GXstack, Cheers!

I tested in Chainer and SX2 as well and did not find problems that you mention.
This was done with an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128Mb video card and an Audiophile 2496 audio card set at a 44k sample rate and 512 latency size.

I wonder if the gui problems could be due to your video card and noises due to a cheap audio card or its settings?

Big problems in EnergyXT....opening lasts forever...
Sounds nice and different. Still Steinberg Warp with Clean Tube preset sounds better for more money...God job anyway!

No need for a pic, we believe you!

Is the G Force an old card, how many Mb? Sorry, not familiar with G Force cards. Can you swap the G Force for another video card? That might tell whether it's your G Force causing you graphics grief.

thx for the comments. is the big problem that GXStack is slow to display ? xt-hq seems to be down - is there another source for this host ?

GUI loads fine for me in eXT here, maybe a *tad* slower than usual, but no missing graphic elements that I can see. I did get some crackling/clipping in the audio way below 0db after activating the chorus & delay that persisted after deactivating them..Sounds pretty cool, I could see a use for it, but the crackling's an issue.

Nice little plug 8)

Post

Already sent the pix.

Happens in every host I have and is the only plug with that prob.

Maybe the 1152 x 864 res,I cant change the res cos my desktop messes up sorry.

Invidia G Force 400mx 32mb not a bad card,at least never gave me probs.

thx - most helpful.

the delay effects add some gain (dry + delay > dry only!) so its worth backing off the level from the preamp unit. If you have some input metering on your host try and get an input peak of about -6db and set the level to around 50%. This will help with any overload issues.

We'll be looking at this for the next round.

P.S. Have you got a working link to an eXT download ?
