I've always been looking for a nice Lute soundfont or GIG multisample.
There are two main Lutes, one is Baroque and the other is Renaissance. I like them a lot. Both are amazing instruments and are very clean and refined. They're basically very vintage guitars, they take on an eggish shape, and instead of having a large opening where sound enters the resonating chamber there are is a round area with lots of little holes.
As far as timbre goes, they're something in between a mandolin and a classical guitar with a warm sound that tends to have dampened treble definition. Very nice overall tone.
If anyone can sample a Lute, I think it would make my collection of old instruments pretty much complete.
RAW and Spe3D are amazing for what they've contributed to the group and I'm testing out all of their samples, they are incredible!!! So many nice musical things that can be done with these beautiful multisamples. To Spe3D: I loved the wine glasses especially. And RAW: The Russian Zither was phenomenal.
Cheers

Thanks Ben. I'm glad you like it.benjamind wrote:And RAW: The Russian Zither was phenomenal.
I don't happen to know anyone who has a lute. I do have a Saz, which is basically a Turkish lute, but I'll have to find a store that sells Saz strings first.
I know that the Early Patches disc has a fine lute:

They all come in packages though so you need to buy the entire set just to get the lute. I'd prefer it if I could either get or buy the lute on it's own. I'm not sure how I would go about it? I'm after the Renaissance lute. The one that was used to play "My Lord Willoughby's Welcome Home".
Anyway, if it's possible to buy the individual Lute from Boldersounds I'll jump on it.

Well, it's only a lute in the technical sense, in the same way that technicaly, a mijwiz is classified as a "Clarinet". They sound nothing alike, though. (but don't let that stop you from sampling your saz! Anyway, the only halfway decent free lute soundfont that I know of is this one: http://www.pythagorean.org/lute/

Thanks benjamind, I have been considering doing a five string banjo and also a Mandolin plus a Ukulele
but not considered the lute, if I come across one I will have a go though.
Best regards,

Not that I'm such a good clarinet player...
Thanks for the URL, but I'll be looking a bit closer to home. Last time I ordered some musical instruments from the US the customs had me paying over €100 of taxes and clearance.
Btw - I might be able to get a Mountain Dulcimer in the near future.
