Never had a controller with buttons before, but I'm about to get one of these joints. Image

It has 9 assignable buttons, will I be able to assign them to the transport controls? I'm not sure how it would work. Does Play/stop/record etc have certain midi control numbers? :help:

Nope. Not without some way of tricking T to think it is a Mackie device. At least I don't think so.

play & stop is note 94

record is note 95 then note 94 at the same time

This is in mcu mode

to use as standerd transport ie; not in mcu mode

then set up the button to be mmc & play should be in the list of mmc commands!

i havent played with that controller so i dont know if it has mmc commands

good luck mate

Yeah, use MMC. The controller should spit it out. It is on the to do list to be able to assign any midi note to any on/off command in tracktion but this isn't yet implemented.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm still confused tho. MMC?? Excuse my ignorance, but how would I pick that? Is that a standard way of assigning buttons? The keyboard does come with a software editor, but I dont see MMC in the drop down menu. Unless it has another name.

PS: "Abort and Restart" would be DOPE to assign to a button. I agree with DjSub. :D

The PCR-M80/M50/M30 provides you with 8 knobs, 8 sliders, 9 buttons, and 2 pedal ports. These controllers can be assigned to any MIDI message, Control Change (CC), RPN, NRPN, System Exclusive and more.

MMC stands for Midi Machine Control and it is (supposed) to be a standard. IN tracktion 2, simply enable MMC for the appropriate input from the timecode menu. Then, if your controller is set up to send MMC for the transport controls, it will work. I can't imagine someone building a controller that supports all those other midi formats and not MMC so It should be in there some where.

Check out this earlier post. Thanks to haydxn for digging in and identifying the sysex strings; I have no clue as to how he figured this out.

Have you by any chance found any more MMC commands/sysex strings for the PCR series, haydxn?

:) the sysex strings i quoted there are the standard mmc messages- as beno said it's kindof a standard, and that's how they're defined. here is where i found them. it explains about MMC in more detail there.

there aren't really many MMC commands tho, as you'll see. there are some locator commands, but they're not really much use to map via sysex to a knob/button.

the rest of T's controllability lies in it's control surface setup, which - as everyone knows - is currently only compatible with the mackie controllers MCU and C4. i'm working on a program that runs alongside T which allows you to map any controller to these mackie commands, which get looped back into T via a virtual midi port, thus emulating said control surfaces (although without feedback). it has midi learn, so it's not too tricky to set up, but i've still got a fair bit to do before it's ready.. and i've lots of uni work atm! :-o

hopefully it won't be too long! although knowing how things usually go, i'll be moments from having it finished and jules will have put something better built straight into T! :hihi:
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

This is all really useful, thanx everyone.
