[Disclaimer: Shameless plug: www.soundclick.com/jeffreynaness]. I am not sure how "adult" this is, though.

<truth type="absolute"> If it wasn't composed by a guy in a powdered wig who's been dead 350 years or longer, it's NOT ADULT MUSIC. </truth>

That is, mostly Trance, Techno, ect. and that there is a lack of more adult oriented artist music, such as Smooth Jazz, New Age, ect. This lopsided view could cause some to believe that Electronic music is a dominant genre, when of course this simply is not the case. I asked myself why this is and came to the conclusion that it is because the younger artist has more time to create and share their music while adult artists do not have this luxury as they work and must attend to more responsibilties in life.
Now, I am an open-minded listener, but am also an honest observer. After many hours of listening to all the sub-genres of Electronic music I cannot help but find myself desiring more fulfilling music than loop based ear candy. And I realize that this thread may ruffle some feathers with the kiddies, but equally, I am also certain that it garners support from other like minded more mature listeners. I simply wanted to bring this observation into perspective and hope that it will encourage internet artists everywhere to compose more mature type music. Thank you.
[mod hat DEFINITELY off]

no offence but ...

... this is scary narrow-minded wankerness

(does a 35 year old teacher count as adult or mature ??? )

[mod hat back on ... occasionally]

Not sure about that, I recon that the radio and TV gives an extremely distorted view of whats ACTUALLY happening and whats really popular. IMO the main reason that the worst example of "electronica" (I f**king hate that tag :x ) always gets the airplay is to purposely cheapen the genre.

Traditionally recorded music is the only thing keeping the old dinosoar industry going, it's VITAL for them to keep control over the content and image. A&R, major recording studios, middlemen etc, they cannot allow a style of music that can be made by anyone with the equipment, skill and vision to burst that lucritive bubble, so they popularise the illusion that the only electroniclly made music is trance, hard house or some other childish shite.(no offence to those who like it)

Meanwhile they're still trying to flog the idea that a singer, guitarist, bassist, drummer format is somehow a form of progress. And of course the bleating zombie section of society suck it all in as usual.

Adult music! I suppose that means sitting back listening to old fashioned lounge muzak (brilliantly played old chap) with yer feet up and a pipe.

Wickeed :hihi:

Before totally piling on (okay, maybe its too late for that :)), it is fair to acknwoeldge that much of what he says is true. Trance, techno, etc. are more popular among young people than older people. It is also likely true that younger people have more free time to experiment in creating music wihout compensation.

On the other hand, Ian, you are sure to get a harsh response when you basically flame this type of music as "ear candy" and suggest that music that is preferred more by older people is somehow higher quality. While tastes may change with age, this does not necessarily equate to better taste.

Which would it be better to be -- an Adult or a Professional? Assuming one can't afford to upgrade to both, that is.
