There seems to be a syzygy of fives today - so here is my composition on that theme:

In 5ives
Cover Art (after Robert Indiana's "Golden 5")

Meter = 5/4
BPM = 140 = 1+4+0=5
55 measures
All chords in intervals of 5
Pitch effects and resonators tuned to fifths
5-tap delays
This is the fifth mixdown

There are samples from 5 songs:
"555" Dodging Goldfish
"ABC" Jackson 5
"Cinco de Mayo" Liz Phair
"Cinco de Mayo" War
"Ready or Not, Here I Come" School House Rock!

Oh and there are cowbells! ...Didn't someone suggest cowbells?

I hardy ever give details, but if you are interested, I made this on a duel G5/2.5 running Tiger with Digital Performer 4.5, Live, Camel 5000 ( Thanks everyone), FL Studio 5, Peak LE 4, Akai K3m, Alesis Quadrasynth, Alesis Quadraverb, Roland D-10, Waldorf Microwave XT, Yamaha PSR-520, Yamaha TG-33, ART Multiveb III, Mackie 24*8 Mixer, MOTU 2408 I/O & Timepiece AV.

I needed a change this month.

Here's some chamber music. The imaginatively titled:

String Trio

Using: Omnisynth, sfz and a few free soundfonts.

I really need to invest in some decent string samples one day, but in the meantime just close your eyes, drink too much wine and pretend they're real instruments.

This is an easy month for me. A close friend has a really colorful family, her grandparents are Indian/Arabian and Irish/Brasilian, and once a year they all get together with the entire family. One of their traditions is to play music all together, so all I had to do was bring my tape recorder and a microphone. The main song for them is the 'Free For All', where each musician can show his/her skill on his/her instrument...

TheGathering
[Edit: re-hosted the mp3, just in case]

If I would have to play all this myself, I would use:

Manystation (Bass)
Wusikstation TSW/HM-bank (Darbuka, Chinese Mandolin, Birds)
Peti (Accordion)
EEM Knagalis (Sitar)
Sampletank (bottle blow, ethnic flute, more flutes, sitar)
Some real percussion instruments, a.o. djembe, tambourine
And a lot of Voxengo (Crunchessor, Lampthing, Analogflux), Kjaerhus Gold and Classic, Endorphin, etc.

That's why I am glad that I only had to tape it :D

I am in NO WAY making fun of people who have sustained Brain Injuries.
What this song is about:
I saw a TV doctor on a news show and he was talking about a serious health care problem in America today. If a family member recieves a brain injury they are treated and sent home or to a brain injury facility for rehabilitation.
Until the insurance money runs out. Then the state forces them into a nursing home or institution until they can qualify for Medicaid -- something that could take months. This causes stress on the family and the patient and causes setbacks in the patients progress, and causes feelings of guilt and depression and emotional outbursts in the patient.
This song shows what it feels like to be one of those patients.

I was reluctant to submit this song because of it's emotional content.
This is strong stuff.
Skip over this song if you do not like sad songs or if you are sensitive about this subject.

Brain Injury

Read more about a typical case here.

Even better, next time you are in a convienience store and there is a donation jar for a Brain Injured or mentally handicapped person, put a dollar in.
Really. I am being serious, for a change.

I Wanna Be a Rockstar

Well, I do. I bet some of you do as well.

A tongue-in-cheek-agro-synth-club-thumper in A minor, or something very near that. :help:

I wanna be a rockstar
So I can get laid
I wanna be a rockstar
So I can get paid

All the elements composed to stop me from making it this month, but I'm a stuborn sonofabitch.

Since there was no theme this month :x (I like themes), I made my own.

This is inspired by a wolf who's facing his first night alone after his mate was killed by trappers.

So I bring you La complainte du Loup.

Enjoy and thanks for listening.

I used:

Live 4
Wusikstation
GPO
DRFusion (Thanks Odo)
Sir
Genecomp

I was forced to mix on $60.00 desktop computer speakers as my power amp is in the shop for the third time this year :tantrum: , so I have no way of knowing how the mix turned out.
