Sascha, what a coincidence ! Today I was working on a couple of new virt. instr. and just before I was going try your Musicmansamples, wich I got yesterday, I read your message. I use EXS and C_Tuner (the best free vst-tuner; never had my guitars and basses better tuned !). See you...

Had a few beers, hopefully I won't mess things up.

Hi there,
I allready have the patch ready (couldn't finish last nite, too much booze), and my little trick of using the harmonic samples as some sort of pseudo release samples seems to be working just fine. In the EXS only that is. Seems as if Kontakt's release trigger functionality is simply f**ked up as it will allways trigger the sample at full level, no matter whether the sustain level of zero is reached allready.
I'm currently thinking about a way to somewhat work around this - but I doubt that I'll find something. In that case I'll upload the patch later on anyways. Blame NI for this.

Sascha, I love your samples (nice trick, the release samples !). Although I don´t drink anymore, I was brooke too last night, or this morning. But it was worth it. Great bass of course, the Musicman ! Take care... .. .

OK, the Rickenbacker patches are up. Won't work as well in Kontakt as in the EXS. Apparently release samples can be treated properly in Kontakt 2, but I still need to find out how. The files in the zip are EXS MkII and Kontakt 1.5 compatible.

Very good; now I´ve got 3 versions : your 2 and mine. I left the (pick) nose on the samples and no looping, cheers and don´t overdo it... .. .

Hi everybody,
Thanks Sascha Franck for share your basses sampled with us, specially the lovely Rickenbacker 4001. I read you are having some problems with release trigger functionality in Kontakt 2. Have you upgraded to 2.0.1 version. I read the first release had many bugs.
Cheers!

What are release samples used for?
I noticed that the sfz format can handle release samples
but it seems like it may work the way you said that Kontakt works. The instructions say that the release sample will trigger at the same velovity as the note on.
I'd like to know how these release samples are supposed to be used so that I can try them out.

Release samples are used to give a sound a more natural feeling. When you release a (real) bass string, there's allways some slight buzz happening. In many new sample libraries you can find this very thing being represented.
Now, it seems that some samplers aren't able to handle them properly though. Obviously the release sample's level should follow your amp envelope too - so it should only play at the level the envelope has reached when the key is released. In other words, if your envelope has allready reached a sustain level of zero, there should be no sound when releasing the key. This is working perfectly in the EXS, in Kontakt it isn't. No idea about how sfz is handling things - apparently just the way Kontakt does.

About the sfz format. Don't take my word for it. I am completely new to it and am just learning.
Take a look at the sfz format page. There is a complete
index of program codes and examples.
I'm still trying to work out how it all works.
