I could go to the FL Studio forum and ask people to come in this thread and vote for me, but I won't.
surely you would ask people to come into this thread and vote for the preset that they thought was best ? :?

Post

yeah thats what i meant.. I was under the impression torben would be voting alone.. :P but oh well wasnt really expecting to win this one :)

That's what Vitamin D meant, Torben.. that you would vote to decide which preset was the best..
That's just my taste. It is more fair this way I think :P

Torben
nah, it's not...My preset is the best, but since no one votes for it, I'm not gonna win...
..to tell ppl to vote for you, that's not nice...I hope the winner burns in hell, unless I win , then I hope to go to heaven.

Ya of course Scuzzphut, I was only joking.. I would never ask people to blindly vote for me.. I would ask them to vote for their favorite entry.. I wasn't serious..

To be fair, however, each preset should have an audio demo posted along with it. How many people are going to download the demo of the plugin to check out all the presets and then vote?

I am pretty sure the majority of people voting are just listening to the presets that have audio examples in this thread and then casting their vote.

I can't be bothered to make an audio demo now ( it was never stated in the rules that we had to ) and I realized that we could do it only after many votes had already been cast.

Anyway, I didn't expect to win, but this contest hasn't seemed fair to me from the beginning.. the date for the submissions changed, then all of a sudden we were allowed to post audio clips ( whenever someone found out about that depended on luck ), then Torben decided not to do the voting himself ( which would have been the fair way to do it.. or, just make everyone download the demo of the plugin to evaluate the presets ).. Anyway, no hard feelings, it was fun.. but in the future, I would suggest coming up with a set of rules and sticking to them. Changing the rules as the contest goes seems unfair. From this experience, I don't think I will bother entering another Kjaerhus competition in the future. Way too messy and disorganized for my taste.

No hard feelings though, really. Just stating it as I see it.. I wish the best luck to all. I already have my compressor needs covered..

Well pheeleep, that was a big mouthful and I understand your frustration. I admit I am not used to arrange competitions and haven't thought about everything that could happen. The change of rules as you call them are what I consider to be additions to the rules that was necessarily as it became clear that someone already had posted more patched and later on someone posted demos. I just tried to make it equal for everybody after it had happened. I will of course learn from this so it does not happen again if / when I should arrange another contest.

Hi Torben,

Please know that I am not mad. I shared my thoughts with you so you could improve the system in the future :) Again, I am really grateful for all the free plugins you provide and in no way am I saying that your company isn't good. I am just sharing my experience with you :)

In the future, please post all the rules at once, in the original thread, and do not allow yourself to change them :)

Take care ( and I really mean that ).

OK pheeleep, but to answer some of your complaints:

1. The submission dateline date was extended. I do not see why that is unfair?

2. The entrees were lined up for 24 hours before the voting. You were all asked to make a demo for your patch. At this time several contenders had already made demos so it was only fair to give others a chance to do that as well. I even offered to host the demos.

3. I clearly stated from the beginning that there would be a vote here at the KvR forum. I never said I would be the judge.

It is unfair to change any rules in a contest once the rules have been posted.. Anyway, that's the way I see it.

I think you should have told the contenders that had made audio demos that that wasn't what you asked for. You asked for a preset, not an audio demo. So, what would have been fair would have been to reject audio demos altogether.
We were asked later on to hand demos, yes. Not in the original rules. I saw this info by chance, and a lot of people had already voted ( most votes going to people who already had an audio demo ). Is this a coincidence?

3. I clearly stated from the beginning that there would be a vote here at the KvR forum. I never said I would be the judge.

Hey no worries.. none of this matters anymore.. but let's look at how things really are. 2o people make a preset, 5 people get the info in time that they had to hand an audio demo. There are 5 audio demos up, and 80% of the people voting are voting between those entries that have the audio demos. Does that seem fair? Do you think people are downloading the demo to check out the presets? I think some people did, but not many. Let's be realistic.. If you changed the rules and decided to make audio demos an option, then you should have made the audio demos yourself, no? Did you really expect everyone to get the info in time?

Anyway, let's leave it at that, ok? Like I said, I am over it :)

if you were over it, your last post wouldn't exist.
aka rktic. demoscener (Farbrausch, Holon, MFX, Still), sound designer, ux-dude, sth @AudioRealism, human synthesizer—not necessarily in that order.

I am simply expressing my point of view, to help Torben come up with more consistent rules in the future... I am still open to discuss this with Torben if he wishes to. What I mean by "I am over it" is that I am no longer bothered by the whole thing. The world has moved on

The only thing I found a bit suspicious was that you actually knew the name of the person doing whichever preset. I would've made them anonymous.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Wouldn't that have made the voting a lot harder?

How so? Do you vote by the preset or by the person?

Just kidding :)

It does seem a bit unfair if most of the votes go towards the ones with the audiodemos.

I guess like some of the others, I didn't find out about including a demo until the voting started and reckoned it was based on people having to check all presets inside of the plugin :?
