ableton live "in live PA"

i wanted to know how to people prepare there loops and trax in live for their live performance so they are not to loud and no to quiet. The other problem i have some loops and some stuff just doesnt fit together right when i play them they just sound like they wore put on top of eachother and not mixed togethere if you know what i mean.
Does anybody have any good tips on live PA and live would be greatly appriciated.
Do i need to compress loops do i need to maximize them or what should i do it before i put them in live or just put an FX on the channell that the loop is playing.

The first thing that springs to mind is compression.
