O.k., so I could load up wavs as audio clips in FL and export as mp3, but if there is a simple but effective and free encoder you prefer, please do tell

alas, db poweramp is no longer free. I was using that, but when I d/l'd the update, the program informed me that after, say 10 conversions, you have to pay
to keep using!
Checking sourceforge now (I really need to start my searches there more often)

Personally, i use Foobar 2000 (add www. and .org to get to the website) for all my encoding and decoding needs. It is a music player, but i think it is superb for encoding and tagging files too.

Does any of those allow for the same sort of convenient rightclick integration I love dbpoweramp so much for?

Sorry, RazorLame does not. But I like the extended presets for MP3 encoding.

RazorLAME seconded.
Come to think of it, it should be something that could be included in the packing options of TotalCommander. I don't think it does this, but I'm going to try, anyway.
//edit
No, it seems it needs a specific plugin to do this. Hmmm.
