help with T-Racks please?

I've just started using T-Racks 24 for mastering. (It's the stand-alone verison, not the plug-in version).

I'm mainly concerned with the limiter at present, it seems to differ from most other limiters I've used. After I use it, it also seems to reduce the volume of the whole file (where it was -0.1, it becomes something like -2db). - Is there a way to set the output volume so that it limits the high peaks, and raises the overall volume so that it peaks around - 0.1db?

I've previously used Logic's Adaptive Limiter on the soft limiting preset. That's what I want; just a soft limiting of excessive peaks, nothing radical, and definately no clipping whatsoever. - Is there a way to achieve a similar effect in T-Racks?

Or do I have to manually raise the volume of the file after it's been limited?

the stand alone version's layout is is more confusing than the plug in. that is a multiband limiter that will change your sound. on the right in the middle is a brick wall limiter. you have to adjust the level, output, and type of curve. I think when many people talk about the sound of t-racks they may have the saturation cranked. you will definately hear that. go easy on the settings and you'll get something nice. a little of each - comp, mb-lim and limit.

Are you using the default preset, or are you starting with a different preset? Some other presets have the gain stages set differently, so a lower or higher output stage of one processor is compensated for by the next processor.

Make sure the output level of the limiter is at 0dB, and if that still doesn't work, make sure the output level of all the other processors is at 0dB.

Turn the overload knob to it's minimum position. That way the limiter will be as soft and "cautious" as possible. Adjust the release knob to control the speed of the limiter, and adjust the input gain to control the amount of limiting.
