D-D-Did, did, did you touch it? What did it feel like in that swanky shrink-wrapped retail box? More sophisticated and grown-up? We downloaders want to know!

You guys do know about this place don't you??

Every last little tiny detail is discussed in there someplace or another.

I know FL and Acid work beautiful together, though if I tried to do one thing I do on Acid on FL or vice versa, it wouldn't work at all. I was considering tracktion, but Cubase has stayed on top of the list. Which is better in terms of flexibility? And which has a better feel to it?

I got Tracktion when it was free for a month or so. That's the same as having bought it in terms of upgrade?

I got mine yesterday, but if you want the extra goodies, you will have to order the retail version from a seller. Id say to anyone, do yourself a favour get traction, its good, you won't regret it.

I dont think so, maybe you get an extra discount, but the free version was more like a promo.
So I´m afraid you have to pay the full price for the new version.
sound is vibration, vibration is life

ok, that's what i imagined, and I think it pretty logical.

You should get an email -- the NFR is good for a $30 discount off T2. Not bad; I didn't expect them to offer any discount at all for a freebie.

Does Tracktion2 do these things:

1. Allow submix/group bus?
(drum kit example- send kick/snare to their own compressors, stereo oh to stereo bus & comp/toms to stereo bus & comp, sub all drums to stereo w/stereo comp, leaving you a stereo mix to send to stereo master)If you can't do it this way, can you group with relative levels, ie kick, snare, stereo toms, stereo oh, and 1 master level control?

2. automation slips w/audio clip? (something i used in Pro Tools all the time editing voice over , like a manual compressor/de-esser, and music ducking, sfx, etc, an old version of deck I used didn't do this, you had to slip automation seperatly, it was a pain in the ass)

the second question was addressed on the "wish list" in the T2 forum, I couldn't tell if it was a function now implemented or still "wished" for

thanks, rg

1. Yes, it has since version 1. You can use Rack Filters for your routing, and group bus by routing tracks to any other tracks, using patch bay plug that's included, or any number of ways. Plus, T2 has official aux sends/returns, although Racks could always do this.

2. Are you talking about automation that moves with the clips? I don't believe so. There are ways to get it to move, by inserting the amount of silence you need to move the clip, plus you can copy and paste automation. I do know that full clip based automation is on the to-do list at Mackie, so it will likely come.

As for prices, most stores are selling it for $149. Online upgrade for paid T1 users is only $20. For NFR users, you get a $30 mail-in rebate if you purchase in a store. If you are a paid user and want the full bundle, you have to buy it in the store, and you get a $60 mail-in rebate, bringing your upgrade price to $90. The online upgrade doesn't include any plug-ins but what was included with the demo.

I'm on my way to the store right now to pick up my copy that is being set aside for me!

Any other questions, please ask! I'll probably post about the bundled version when I get it. Otherwise, try the demo, as it's very functional. Good luck!

Frig. The local Guitar Center doesn't have any on order and doesn't know if they're ordering any.

I was hoping they'd have it on the shelves and I'd pick that summanabitch up but noooo. Here at Guitar Center we only carry 3,000 copies of the Steinberg Virtual Instrument Collection.
:hihi:

Do you have any Sam Ash or anything like that? Did you check the my.mackie.com for stores around you that have it? If not, try that, it should show you who is authorized to sell it in your area. Good luck!

Nah, this is Minnesota. We've got Guitar Center and had Mars. Heh.

I think I'm going to call the G.C. tonight and talk to the manager and be like 'you better order one, dork.'

...and if he puts up a fight, I'll get nasty. :-o

I heard someone else here say that they had talked to a GC a month or so back and they claimed to already have it, which since NOBODY else did, was highly unlikely. For me, the people at GC don't have a clue, at least in the times I've heard. I've only been to the one here in Nashville once, since I usually go to Sam Ash. Good luck!

Yes, this is what I'm describing. I used to work at an ad agency doing a/v, I was the in-house "audio guy" there. I used pro tools to mostly cut demos, edit whatever song they brought in, record voice over, and put it together. I used library sfx to a great deal, also custom sfx when the need arised.
If , for example, the vo was "peter piper picked.."
and the 1st and 3rd "p" popped, one could use the volume automation to pull the level down on the p's.
When assembling the spot, you would normally have to edit and slide the copy around to fit the music, get the timing right, etc, and adjust whatever sfx you had going. Usually this was done with someone looking over your shoulder. Having to seperately cut/paste or select/slide the automation is beyond a pain in the ass, it's not acceptable in this type of enviornment. Now i'm not critisizing T2 itself, I'm just trying to understand how this function works. I think it looks great, especially for the price. I don't get the impression they are trying to compete with protools per se, but others are starting to compare, it seems.I think for a home recording system, or even with music that is metrically ridgid, it's not too much of an issue. Start getting more abstract or doing more commercial/spot work, it's a pretty important function. Regardless, the first question was more important to me anyway.

I've seen on kvr a lot of statements like "what's so great about protools, this or that does the same with better midi, etc. Protools is just a really stable, swiss army knife type of app that is well supported, and is very easy to do what you want with. It was not originally geared toward midi/synth guys, more as a replacement for analog multitrack, which is why the midi functions have been slow to catch up with the rest of the pack. But it really is a great setup imo. It's the one others are compaired to. And as stated before, it's in every pro studio. Not my first choice at the moment, I'm more into the synth/midi stuff myself, but if I ever get back into recording bands or doing spots, I'd definatly get some kind of protools le system.

thanks again,
rg
