Remapping computer keyboard to MIDI CCs?

The Nostromo Speedpad (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductP ... _Id=157024) has been used by a lot of people as a low cost Ableton Live controller.

Basically, it works as any computer keyboard but with a lot of shift options, assignable macros etc.

The problem is that it can only be used for on/off type controls. In order to use it (or any computer keyboard) to control continous controllers, the keypresses must somehow be remapped to MIDI CC messages, i.e. press one key to count a parameter upwards, another downwards.

Has anyone done this? Any suggestions for software that might do the trick?
