Nah, this is Minnesota. We've got Guitar Center and had Mars. Heh.

I think I'm going to call the G.C. tonight and talk to the manager and be like 'you better order one, dork.'

...and if he puts up a fight, I'll get nasty.

:-o

try sweetwater or some other mail order if you can't
find it locally

I also do use ProTools. I have an MBox, and I do love PT. Very powerful. Still, Tracktion is my main sequencer, but hey, I'm in Nashville, and EVERYONE in Nashville("industry" related) uses either PT or Nuendo, mostly PT. So it's an advantage for me to know how to use it.

But I do have faith that Mackie and Jules will add this functionality very soon. I do hope so, as it's one of the most requested features.

Tracktion is probably a better musician thing, but so far, I don't see any application coming close to Protools in simplicity and power. It ain't perfect, but then nothing is.

For example(and this is a big one):

You have a bunch of vocal tracks. You want to have some delay, which is also EQ'ed of course. You want some reverb, which is EQ'ed as well. You want some of that delay to go in to the reverb as well.

You're dead in the water on most apps out there. It's almost like nobody thought actualy routing your signals, like sending material from one FX'ed track(in this case an AUX Input in Protools) in to another send(in this case an internal BUS in Protools).

Everytime a new version of some app comes out, I look for this feature that any $200 mixer with at least two AUX sends will give you.

I had to wait for Logic v5.2 if I remember correctly before some rather complicated solution turned up in that app.

Nuendo and CubaseSX are not much better. Talk about visual overhead and unnecessary complexity!

So. Does Tracktion feature this in an easy to manage fashion?
-edit-
Checking the feature set, I have one question:
Can a track that functions as an AUX return, also AUX send ? I'm grabbing the demo now, but would apreciate any info here :) .
-edit--

If not, I realy can't think of a good reason why I should mix anything on it.

Some of you may think Protools ain't the cream, but baby it gets teh job done a LOT better when it comes to signal routing. No workarounds. No unnecessary visual yadayada. Protools makes you work less, and GODDAMN it's miles better in pasting automation parameters of a plugin across marked areas. No damn software gets that MF right like Protools.

How much work is Tracktion in this area? Do I chuckle now? Or do I cry?

The "Racks" function in Tracktion deals with these issues very intuitively. For me at least.

About the Aux Sends/Returns, you can do what you ask. Aux S/R are handled just like any other plug-in in Tracktion, with the one exception that they have limited amounts of slots. But when you run out, Rack Filters are ten times more powerful than any Aux setup. It's EXTREMELY simple in T to do things like:

Route ANY track to ANY other track, and even back if you want, then to another track. Switch left and right around if you want to. Take a plug-in, and route it to any other plug-in, then back again, then through another track, then each output through it's own effects, then back to the main mix, etc. Pretty much, anything can be routed to anything. And yes, you can set up the Aux Send/Return on the same track. Really, from what I've seen, even PT doesn't have this flexibility. And I'm about to get my PT certification here soon(still have to finish the Digidesign class portion).

I think when you try the demo, and really start routing things, through racks or whatever, you'll find it MORE than enough flexibility. And make sure to read the manual, as well as the tutorials that are around, as they will help you get around the Rack Filters. Remember, the Rack Filters are kind of like EnergyXT inside of Tracktion, just without some of the modules and sequencer features that EXT has, and are already in T.

Sorry to say this in so many words. Good luck, and remember, it's ok to ask!

Thank you.

I now have the incentive to realy take that demo apart :).

My main field of work is sound design, and with the Quicktime video and video offset support, it's shaping up to be a very interesting alternative.

Here's what I'll be looking out for:

Easy region/clip import, placement, generation(cut up of stuff for export) and editing. Possibly even AudioVision style clip-editing and subclipping? :)
The placement from a region bin will be a fairly important feature.

Scrubbing and scrub-editing of region boundaries.

Easy pasting of automation parameters across a marked space. Easy editing of automation parameters.

Region/Clip specific destructive effect history and recall. It's a tough one, but a feature that Nuendo users have come to like a lot.

Since I plan on buying a cute Beheringer motorized fader bank, an easy way to use them :), via learning functions. I don't think I could live without good automation recording via faders any more.

I use PT at work, so that's the speed and ease-uf-use benchmark for me.
Will mix for fun

Was that possible in T1 as well and did I just never use it?

Derailed:

I placed an order with Sweetwater today after being really fed up with Guitar Center. I got a call from the local G.C. at about 1:00pm and another lad told me that he spoke to Mackie and they said that "Tracktion 2 isn't out" and that they wouldn't have it in stock for (probably) a month.

I believe some people may have been having problems with this, see:

the problems may have been worked out now.
