I have been getting into Orion Platinum 5.8 lately and the more I use it the more I like it. It is bit unconventional-but at the same time it is innovative and really easy to use. What do you think of Orion Platinum?

I personally wasn't into it, but that's the nice thing about having a variety of hosts with different approaches & workflows isn't it? you eventually find something that fits you, whatever anyone else thinks of it - if it works for you it's a cool host.
you may have people replying slating it & saying it's 'pants' etc., just their opinion it's all subjective (to a point).
So what i think (in a nutshell) is that it's no good for me - but it obviously is for you, so have fun being creative with it. :D

I expect BONES will be hear any minute. I believe he quite likes it. So do a few other people here, in fact.

I think the sequencer is actually bollox although the pattern-concept is basically nice - the included synths&fx are pro-quality workhorses...

You have to be British, as that is the quintessence of the British penchant for understatement.

Scottish, yes. ;)

I use FL Studio, but if i was starting out and i walked up to a store today and saw FL right next to Orion Platnum, I would leave with Orion.

What's the hype behind this program? I've never used it.

I absolutely adore Orion. Since Tracktion 2 took so long to be officially released, it forced me to delve more into it. I really like the workflow there. The only gripe I have it that it forces you to see all outs of a multi-out VST whether you're going to use them or not. Of course, it forces me to make use of them since they are there, so no loss there I guess. Also, word to the wise, use Midi Outs unless you want to copy and paste your midi if you choose to change VST instruments part way through a song.

CosmicHuman,

I love it (OP that is)! You should at least give it a try. You may find it "unconventional" as you say, but I think you must mean this in regards to the software paradigm and in comparison to other software. For me, having started with hardware sequencers/samplers/synths/drum machines/pedals/effect racks/and a mixer, Orion seems closer to conventional than the linear spreadsheet sequencers. My two cents...

Thank you for your two cents. I have used Cubase, Live, Logic Audio (before it went to Mac), Sonic Foundry's programs, Reason, Storm, Muzys, Making Waves, Hardware sequencers, and multitracks, and am currently working with Orion Platinum for the first time-and it really is amazing. Right now all I am even using is the sampler-which is set up more like a synth than anything else-and using drum hits in Wav. format to build beats and a few Pads for harmony. It feels a lot more like using hardware because of that. I have a large library of VST's but have not needed to touch them because the sampler and Wasp are so good. I also really like that they included a separate 4 Bus Master Mixer-which is essential-yet missing from a lot of programs. I am going to continue working with this one for a while!!!

Its ok.

Not really my cup of tea, although when I did try it, it was primarily because of my search for a rewire host, which I don't think it really cuts at.

Irrational,I went for it because it looks like Soundcraft Hardware,it is the host I know best so I am not sure where the "unconventional" tag comes from.

Of all the hosts out there, including stuff like N-Track studio, this is the only major one that I don't even know what it looks like. Haven't even ever seen a screenshot. I think it's high time I mosied on over to at least have a peek.
