Cubase SX project size is out of control!!

hi - I have a project which increases hugely in size everytime I work on it. It is now at 90mb!!!!!! and takes about 12hours to load!!!! Even if I simply tweak a slider or add a few notes here or there the file size just jumps ridiculously high (about 30mb!!). The same thing happens with all the backups I have made of this project (but not with any other projects). If anyone has any ideas what is going on please post! The project consists of about 10audio tracks with a lot of buffer overide & bit crusher plug ins, and a few midi tracks.

Hmmmm....30MB sounds an awful lot just for adding a few notes - dunno what's going on there.
But as for the total size of 90MB...you're kidding right? I generally get one project saved onto one CD. I rarely have any projects that are less than 400MB and it's usually alot more than that...although I've not yet got into the realms of one project on 2 CDs. (I always include a rendered dry mix and 1 or 2 FXed mixes too, which obviously bumps up the size a great deal).
In fact, this last project I'm working on is all done at 32bits - haven't actually looked at the total size yet, but I suspect it'll end up over 700MB...and if that's the case, then I'll go back to using 24bit. If you can have a project with 10 audio channels, and all the edits etc that SX saves with it, and keep it down to only 90MB, then you're doing well.

I'm not on cubase, but with sonar my saved files are usually in the 900+ meg range. Sometimes even double that. I've started burning my projects to dvds. 1 project per dvd. I save the original bundle file, then separately save all the wave files-stretched with silence from the front of the project to the back for future compatability. I usually run about 40 to 60 tracks total.

Err.. I think he means just the Cubase .cpr file. No audio is usually contained within that, unless it's embedded in an .fxb such as those DS-404 uses (the sample data is stored with the project). So does Sonar save the audio within the project file by default?
P.S. Richard - it would be useful if you stated what version of SX you are using and which plugins.

It is simply the CPR file which is close to 100mb, so I believe no audio is contained in this file. I have much more complex CPR files which are roughly about 900kb in size. Oh, and I tried opening the file yesterday at about 14:00 and 19hrs later it is 40% done!!!!! I am hoping that when it is loaded I will be able to copy and paste everything to a new cpr file which will fix the problem but obviously it would be nice to solve the problem properly.
Smartelectronix buffer overide stereo
Smartelectronix supatrigger
Bitcrusher - the one that comes with cubase
one of the reverbs with cubase
(sorry... Its a bit difficult to check the exact ones!)
Cubase SX 1.0
The only thing I have done differently in this project to previous ones is that some audiotracks are using many of the same plugin e.g. 3xbufferoveride. (however I always turn these off before closing down the project, and switch off the Midi inputs).
thanks

yeah...sounds like a bug. I'd check out what updates are available and download one of them. If a certain update has some bug or other, you can always roll back to a different one. For example I'm on 2.2.033 (I think)...there are at least 2 more updates available, but 033 is stable for me and I've noticed no bugs in the way I work, so I simply stick with it.
There are several updates for any version of SX, and it's simply a case of finding which one works for you (I don't subscribe to the view you have to use the latest version...if there's a bug in a feature you never use, then there's no point in updating IMO). When you surf the Cubase forums...seems to me like all some people do is try to find esoteric features in SX that nobody ever really uses, just to be the first one to find a bug...like;
"the solo button slows down when and only when I have exactly 547 audio channels and 339 midi channels with PSP Vintage Warmer on channel 78 in the 7th insert slot and I have just typed in "How now brown cow" in the channel notes box while simultaneously remote-controlling the first 17 midicontrollers of One-Ping only when it's VSTi number 35" I mean...who cares?
So....there will be an update that works for you I'm sure. Failing that, do as you mentioned and transfer everything over to a new .cpr and see if that helps - I suppose it could just be a corrupted .cpr file that keeps the corrupted data every time you save or open it.

sonar has project files and bundle files. project files are pointers and mididata, bundles are project files con audio.
