Dear Steve
First of all thank you VERY much for the samples! I fully understand the reason to withdraw the free download service, yet those 2 years (? or more?) of Hollowsun free d/l's made your site somewhat of a legend--literally all around the world.
Just one request--if you decide not to shut down Hollowsun completely, is it [possible to keep the stories and pics on instrument pages? It was such an exciting reading, somewhat of an encyclopedia! Hopefully I'm not asking for too much

Steve - the easiest solution is to dramaticaly reduce the number of freebies available for download. And may even involve trashing the forum to make it simpler. That way poeple can still visit your site, and view your commercial products and download a bit. I certaintly do find the descriptions of each download usefull and interesting. One might assume that would be part and parcel of your commercial products. Some are just fascinated by electronic music hardware history. I find the bigest problem with sample sellers,
in general, is the format they come in are for the most hexy priced samplers, that someone might find in those bigger studios. I mainly use CM DS404 sampler and CM SR202 drum sampler, and I havent noticed anything any better in the medium price range, though there are some alternatives. As well when I think of commercial sample product, ussualy one actualy does need a free demo/sample of the commercial product, to see if it fits in with what the music creator is actualy trying to do.

 I get a strange kick outta being the customers' punching bag. They're so cute.

What potential customers is he having a go at? I can’t see any in this thread, you know, where that it is showing he is having a go at them.

If I read this thread well, you never were a potential customer Jonny, you were only looking for freebies. IMO this last remark was totally uncalled for and far below the belt.

(And if I'm wrong, and it was not sarcastic, then I apologise for jumping on it.)

Hi Johnny,

If Steve were to give me the express permission to do so, I might be able to forward some of the Hollow Sun freebie samples to you, if you need some of them. I don't know if I have all of them, but I know that I downloaded some of them.

Hi Steve,

Would it be okay with you, if we shared the Hollow Sun freebie samples amongst ourselves? It would be a way of circulating the samples, without you having to pay for the bandwidth. If you think further circulation of the freebies might hurt your commercial sales, I would understand, and I promise not to share any of the freebie samples in that case.

Whatever you want, I'll certainly respect. I'm just trying to be helpful. I thought perhaps I could make both you and Johnny happy at the same time, by providing him some freebie samples, and saving you on bandwidth costs (assuming that was the primary reason you dropped the free samples from your site.)

Here is a cynical point of view – I am not saying it is the intention but could be seen as detrimental to Steves on line sales.

The request for descriptions to stay up – could be seen as a way to back-up interchange of the previously free samples – they would just need the files and go to the site to get the info (still creating bandwidth drains of types)

Another thing, distribution of these files by any of my hosted clients in not permitted –period.

Best regards,

Spe3d

I just want to use this chance to thank you spe3d for your ongoing contribution to the ones who can't pay and the ones who can pay a bit in this community.
Much Kudos to you :hail:

Well that settles that, I'm afraid. People without credit cards are left out. It's common. Best thing to do is get a credit card if able and use it wisely. Credit cards (or similar devices) are likely to be the only form of exchange in the future. If you have a checking/savings account, PayPal is also accepted by the Hollow Sun order system (I just chose not to use it, personally).

If you can't get a credit card, you can still probably get a debit card, which can be used in place of a credit card by most merchants. I have a debit card which draws money directly from my bank's checking account, and it is usable almost anywhere VISA credit cards are allowed. There's also no interest payments involved, since the money is taken straight from my checking account, and no real line of credit is actually involved. Since no credit line is involved, anyone with an appropriate checking account can obtain a debit card. Your credit rating is irrelevant. (Talk to your bank for more details.)

For those with credit rating problems, or those who don't like paying credit card interest, perhaps this is a solution?

I was a very happy Hollow Sun user ageeeeeees ago when it was all free. I loved the site, when steve brought out the CDs I was soo happy. Only to find out I didnt have a credit card so I couldn't buy one... :( (I did ask steve if there was a way around this but he was not interested and sed i was a 'minority'
Since then, Steve's attitude to me has been appauling and I am no longer (currently) in a position to spend money on my music.
They are great samples though, unlucky, bad marketing has probably seen there demise now.

To clear up the record, I am not nor ever was 'Thieving/stealing/leaching' from Hollow sun. I was there when it was free, and I was even willing to pay for the CDs because I knew he quality would be good.
You're taking the piss, right ?? Jeez, grow up kid !

ShareIt gives the possibility to send money orders or even cheques to buy stuff online & almost all the producer/develloper (Electronisounds, Sound Engine, Peace Love Productions, AlgoMusic, etc...) I've contacted accepted money orders. So it's possible to buy stuffs online without having a credit card, I don't understand what prevent a company to accept this mode of payment? Time? Too long to proceed?
