I've wondered if there's a phenomenon of ppl liking a band because it's something they could pull off themselves. Anyone encounter this

Personally, I aspire to be better than I am.

no.

Its easy to do something thats already been done. The Beatles wrote 210 songs that make me feel like "hey I could do that" but behind their simplicity is a genius that I simply do not have...

erroneous. those songs were written by reptiles and though-projected, like most if not all populous media

you sriosuly don't tink humans get to be this stupid without considerable assistance, do you? why would humans be so much stupider than other organic forms of life otherwise??

you gotta think about the evidence, because you don't get to see everything in life. it's like poker.

When I play my stuff to people as I'm making it they get really frustrated and start telling me all about what I need to do to it etc... It's mostly drivel as occasionaly I humour them by trying to create the effect they seem to be trying to explain without any good results . When I don't tell them it's my stuff that I'm working on and I play it to them they don't say any thing. Not until I mention I'm working on it...
THis pees me off because I don't try to tell them how to lay bricks or mend a toilet or operate auto-cad.
People seem to claim some sort of ownership of music, the closer they are to the source the more freaked out they get because it's obviuos they have had nothing to do with it and thats why they try and tell me how I should express myself !!!??? mmmmm {spell edits}:oops:
I try not to be jealous when I hear simlple stuff that sounds like I could've made it but then I can usually prove myself right by doing my version of whatever it is... although it's 430am here and my communicative skills are dwindling, don't ask me what I mean't there as it's part of a dream/halluc. ;-)

Oh and I haven't done poppers for years, I used to like the bit where you do alot and fall over and have the wildest hallucinations/dreams

Nope.

In fact, often the reason I don't like something is because I know how easy it is to imitate, and because it's something I never would have done myself because it's just too boring.

We're supposed to be playing music, not working music

woomph's story reminds me this one particular incident i experienced - i think it says a lot about how people perceive music/whatever else differently based on their pre-conceptions about the person who presents it;

me being korean, i once posted one of my band's demo songs in a korean messageboard just to see the reactions - i got shit loads of people commenting on how bad they think the singer's english is and people were saying shits like "why do you guys have to sing/write in english if you can't really sing/write lyrics in english? either get a singer who is a native english speaker or write/sing in korean!"

The thing is, I was active on that message board for over a year but people didn't know I was actually living in UK, and what's funnier is that i was the only korean in our band and the singer was actually English - born and rasied in UK and never lived anywhere else in his life.

yet, just because I was Korean people assumed that my band mates must be Korean too, and because of this preconception they've had and whatever other prejudices they must've had about Korean bands singing in English, most of comments on my band's demo was filled with some sort of criticism towards the singer's english proficiency rather than anything else.

That's Hillarious!
