NI Guitar Combos - I'm intrigued

So NI has taken a page from IK Media it seems, and is now offering cut-down versions of their amp models (see recent KvR news). I have to admit, I'm interested. I have a new GDI21, which is covering my needs for Plexi, Boogie, and Tweed, plus I have the fabulous Green Machine II for variations on US/Brit combos that can't even be done with the 'real deal' (in a good way). But I don't have anything in my arsenal to do AC30.
When I get the Tracktion 2 box, it comes with Amplitube LE, which has an AC30 model but it's not top boost, I don't think. That, and there are differing opinions on which of the 2 softwares sound better. There are people in both camps, and I'm not really in one or the other.
At $79 for ONE amp (includes chromatic tuner, though, which might not be a bad thing for some people), though, the sound would have to be significantly better than the $99 (once upon a time $79 on sale) Amplitube LE and its *3* amp models or my GDI21 and its further 3 amp models to make it worth the money.

The big question is what lameass copy-protection scheme to they slam you with for your price of admission? If it's dongle or challenge/response they can forget it. www.simulanalog.org for great sounding free amps and effects.

I haven't had any problems with their C/R copy protection, and nothing I use from them requires a dongle, so, the security is not really a concern for me.greendoor wrote:The big question is what lameass copy-protection scheme to they slam you with for your price of admission? What concerns me is, how long will they support the product? I use Reaktor Session, which is a fantastic product, but they recently ceased supporting that and will no longer provide updates. I will now be required to upgrade to the full Reaktor to use any new ensembles made in R5...will they pull the plug on the guitar combos and require a full upgrade to Guitar Rig 15 months down the line?
These are the things that worry me...

Sound demos are on each page.FAL wrote:No sound demo on the website
The questions where is the demo?
I am very interested but I can not buy it without a demo.
So where is the promised Amplitube2 ?
Hey competition is always good (for us consumers)

I might be stupid, but all I see is the demo sound think from Guitar Rig...not the amps.AndrewSimon wrote:Sound demos are on each page.FAL wrote:No sound demo on the website

You are right ... then again GUITAR COMBOS is Guitar Rig broken down and no pedal.FAL wrote:I might be stupid, but all I see is the demo sound think from Guitar Rig...not the amps.AndrewSimon wrote:Sound demos are on each page.FAL wrote:No sound demo on the website

In any case a demo would be more desirable, not sound bites.

At $300 it's quite a bit more than NI Guitar Combos, but a Vox Tonelab will get you a very nice AC30 emulation along with 15 other amps. I mean, who could do a better Vox emulation than Vox?
Don't get me wrong, I love my Vetta II, but for Vox sounds the Vox Tonelab wins. The Tonelab also has a really nice saturated sound. I'd say it has a bit of an edge on the Pod/Vetta series on it's mildly driven sounds.
Pod/Vetta still wins for all-out balls-to-the-wall distortion.
P.S. No, I'm not aware of what placing your testicles against a wall has to do with distorted guitars either.

Excuse all the blood.

I have the full Amplitube 1.x and there IS a preset for an AC-30 Top Boost Clean. Since I'm not too well versed in Vox sounds, I really don't know how good it is.Lunch Money wrote: When I get the Tracktion 2 box, it comes with Amplitube LE, which has an AC30 model but it's not top boost, I don't think.
No idea if the LE version has this preset.

I suggest you get T2 and check out the included Amplitube LE. If it doesn what you want, then there's no need to check out Guitar Rig. On the other hand, if it doesn't have the AC30 you're after, then you know for sure that you want to check out Guitar Rig.Lunch Money wrote:So NI has taken a page from IK Media it seems, and is now offering cut-down versions of their amp models (see recent KvR news). You know, I think there's a demo of Amplitube available. You might want to check it out.
Forever,
Kim.
