With programs such as iTunes, Napster, etc., does the .99 cent amount get split up between several people or does it all go to the artist on the label? If it does get split, where does the money go? And when someone purchases a cd, who gets what? I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with this information.

judging by standard record contracts the artist usually gets about 3 per cent of gross sale price, yes ? here that means 3c per sale. of course i hope it is better than that. perhaps someone knows more ?

This is a little old, but I doubt it's changed much... For each $0.99 song sold on iTunes, artists get about 10 cents, Apple gets 35 cents, and the label gets 55 cents.
