I recall reading somewhere that for the brain to detect any 'musically useful' information (i.e. pitch) the grain must be at least 20ms (or thereabouts) in length. I'd like to provide a citation for this, but can't remember where I read it and have had no luck using Google.

Anybody?

Trevor Wishart makes reference to the same info in Audible Design. He actually goes through a full taxonomy of small to large bits of audio in the book.
