A subscription to AudioShots.COM for the ability to download future soundfonts, samples and loops designed by me? I would get others involved on this project – but looks like I lost the battle on that one - so its a freaky future sample set

I am thinking of making a ‘yearly’ price of $50 to get access to all future samples done by me from the audioshots site.

They would be bizarre, different – not exactly bread and butter instruments –ranging from fx to textures – nothing too massive each would be around 20 MB and some wave file options could run into the 100 MB

You would also be on the road to viewing an increasing quality that should terminate in larger sample archives and an increased yearly subscription by the end of the year – the benefits would be early subscribers gain the renewal at the same price they joined at.

I would get the ability to support costs of downloads, and purchase better recording equipment. That’s one plan – I have a couple, but this seems like a good idea on paper – what do you think?

The other idea is just to pop the samples I done and do in the AudioShots.Com site and pop a donation button next to them, I have a feeling this wont be too effective though. Or I could just forget samples and stick to hosting.

well I voted for the donation thing, because I dont use much samples and dont need to dl a whole bunch of them.

just frequently I might dl a bit.

and money is always short here

tho I could maybe contribute some samples or make it on the basis of exchange,
upload one for one download.

Make low-rate MP3's available for the cheapskates and as tasters, and sell individual samples or bundles to the folks that are willing to fork out for the quality. Price them like iTunes, and Robert Smith's yer lipstick wearing uncle.

I second this suggestion. The loop library does something like this, though I am not that fond of their site design. I am sure you could do something as good, and could probably do much better.

Perhaps you could also sell c.d.s of 24 bit samples, and keep 16 bit samples for download on the site.

So you would have: mp3s for 'samples' of your samples; 16 bit samples available on a pay-per-download basis; and 24 bit c.d. packages for the hard core hi-fi crowd.

I love the stuff you have put up so far and I would indeed be willing to subscribe (any discount if you host my site ? ).

Remember tho that many people were VERY sceptical about NI Komplete Kare... so I guess youd have to let people know in advance what/how much to expect?

Having said that, I personall find the quality and strangeness of what you have already done enough for me so you'd have one customer at least

I will need to think out a solution to this, I feel in a way to some extent it does not work too well in practice - but something along those lines might be if its a alternative requirement - I will think on this idea too.

What sort of quality are they gonna be? What formats would you host? What types of music would they be for? I'll wait to vote till I know!

I am thinking of making one Strange one shot samples set a week (these could literally be anything – like the Drill – but better quality as time progresses) they will be available as 24 Bit 44.1 One Shots – 16 Bit One Shots with loop points for sustain and a sound font.

One larger project each month – like a real instrument – again very basic one shot samples in 24 Bit 44.1, 16 Bit 44.1 looped with root note, and a sound font (they could be pretty big as time goes on though – smaller instruments with limited octave range or feeling would result in smaller archives – bigger ones will follow as I generate revenue to hire instruments for the one a month project.

I will also take on board suggestions for samples to be recorded – but don’t promise they would be recorded, but demand would or if it tickles my fancy would certain influence the possibility of it becoming a reality.

It would be backed by a money back Guarantee that if I failed to provide the one sound font that makes a total of four and the larger project in a month, regardless of how long you were a member for = money back.

I think it would be a good source for original samples that artists could further tune and manipulate to their desire.

The samples would be royalty free in the context of using them in your songs, either for personal use or commercial – only thing you could not do is distribute the samples.

Mic placement and methods used to record the samples would be displayed. A running total of current samples in the project would be constantly displayed in the sample section for all visitors to read – but only subscribers could download them.

As to application to style – this is a subjective thing – I will not be creating sounds for styles.

Thank you whyterrabbyt, I have taken on bard your idea and will mull it over and see if some of it can be used in the end porject. Its a good idea, at this moment I am still leaning towards the subscription idea - but nothing in stone yet.

I voted no, maybe should have voted 'other'.

I've subscribed to a couple of sample / loop providers the last few years, and to be honest: The first weekend I download everything that seems interesting on the site, and after that I just forget about the site, until I get a reminder to renew .

I might subscribe, but that's just because I tend to buy almost everything, especially from people who have a positive (to me) image here at kvr , the price is decent and it's not totally unusable to me... (e.g. I'm not at all interested in vintage synth or drum loops).

On the other hand, I don't mind paying for good usable samples, e.g. the Wusik/Manystation/Zvon sets or like the online sounds at esoundz. But I always prefer downloads, paying for something that I cannot use immediately is a dissatisfier...
