Tassman 4
Not all plugins need it because they either don't have hundreds of presets and folders or have them organised in convenient dropdown lists (e.g. Cameleon, Wusik Station and Albino) that enable you to see and navigate to all presets at once. In fact many seem to prefer drop downs but plugins that use an organisation system in a box like Sonic Synth do need it though as if you have hundreds of presets they are harder to scroll through and many presets are always off the screen.

The new Dimension Synth in Project 5 ver 2 supports it, too. Just for the record,,, I can live without mouse wheel scrolling, but it sure would be nice. I have a TON of sounds to go through in Sampletank! :)

Halion, really? Not for me... I am using Halion 3.

PC, Win XP, Fl Studio 5 is my host.
Play it by ear

Indeed, the Fxpansion BFD and Guru do scroll. No problems with that implementation in FL Studio.

HyperSonic is scrollable AND drag-and-drop.
PlugSound uses pop-up lists by category.
I THINK Kontakt is?

Don't know about HALion 3 or why they would change it but the program window in HALion 2 scrolls in cubase for me.

Some of the things you guys are mentioning either don't scroll or or aren't sound module plug-ins (we're talking about scrolling for your sounds so why anyone is mentioning fx I don't know). But, it is interesting to see the ones that do. I have BFD but hadn't noticed scrolling but then I haven't used it in a little while. Anyway...

Maybe it can be done in the preferences as an update. I am not sure if it will be in 2.1 but maybe the next one. Or maybe this one. Let's see. I've mentioned it at least.

Thanks

iZotope Trash has a lot of presets which you can scroll though. As far as useability for the musician it's the same thing as loading sounds in ST2 - when you've got a big list of things to pick from, and you want to find something fast, it's easier to scroll using the mouse. That's why I mentioned fx.

Just go to your snare kit piece and scroll with the mouse wheel to see it in action. :)

BFD was more relvant though since we're talking about sounds and virtual instruments not effects. But, point taken. Let's see. Obviously it is not up to me or I'd just say "sure guys" (having no idea what sort of code or whatever technical things are involved). I can only tell you that it has been suggested to the very top of the company and seemed like it might be possible in a future update. No specifics about it being 2.1 or not yet though. Of course I'll let you know when possible.

Since we're on the topic now of new features, I'd REALLY like to see velocity or cc control of sample start point added to ST2, OR...

..just allow a layer to have a diffrent start point and switching between them as one can do in Kontakt.

This would allow better legato playing as is implemented in GPO.

That's an interesting subject. With regard to better legato playing, please elaborate if you can. You mean at lower velocity it plays more into the sample and then at harder velocity it plays outward with more of the original attack from the beginning of the sample being played?

I like to mess around with sample start modulation sometimes and actually ST2 already has this capability within the engine and we can program sounds that have this. It is not a user parameter although I can make it an adjustable parameter via a macro knob depending on a particular patch. However, one of the tricky things about sample start modulation is that when you are moving the start of a sample you lose the control of it starting at a zero crossing and thus can have a click on the attack. This can be smoothed with the amp envelope usually. The bigger problem is that it opens the door for people to hear a click on the attack and think the sound is flawed. So, it is a trade off. I'd like to do it more if it wasn't for that potential misunderstanding if someone were to adjust the attack of the env and hear a click because of the variable sample start. However, some sounds it isn't a problem. It depends on the frequencies present in the sound.

yeah, it would be annoying to have people complaining about that. But one could include a feature like "snap to zero crossing", which would automatically find the closest crossing. Then, to enable total control, one could have the option to turn off "snap to zero crossinng" in a preferences dialog.
