Stepchild is only 32 steps !
That is bummer ! I tried Spacefox advice, it is not any good.
Real drumEditor is what I need. Workarounds are good but I need a tool to work with, not a workaround.
Slicey Drummer and Fill-In Drummer are MIDI plug-ins that only work within Sonar & Cubase. They will not work within T2! In addition to that, as far as I found out, it is impossible to record into them.

I've bought Jamstix (one of a few VST's I have actually thought worthy of a purchase). While you might think of it as a drum editor it is more of a virtual drummer.

It's a great product and the support provided is 2nd to none.

DR008 does not have an editor/sequencer, unless you buy some plugins for it.

As far as I know, the drum editors/sequencers out there are limited to 32 steps. ERA looks like it has great features. I think you can setup triplets etc., which is not really possible (in a non-hokey way) to do in Stepchild, or Stepbeater. Again though, ERA has only 32 steps.
It makes me feel like maybe I should just use Tracktion's editor to do my drum parts, but I don't think its going to be as quick or as easy.

First of all, the DR-008 does have a sequencer in it. But second, I mentioned that I use Slicey Drummer and Fill-In drummer inside of it, and those are just drum editors with alot more options, like the ability to edit envelopes, humanize, swing, change note assignments, and much more.

So yes, DR-008 does what he wants.

HI

Something like the up and coming 'GURU' will probably be something worth looking at as it has extensive drum sequencing and it is a vst or standalone program.

Flipper.

@alexibm:

(assuming you are on PC)
I mostly use Sonicbytes ERA as a drum editor. It is a step sequencer/ arp VST plugin - extremely flexible and powerful.

Download the demo and give it a try. Post at SONICBYTES forum if you need any help setting it up.

I usually use Tracktion's piano roll to tweak what I made in ERA. It is certainly usable, but you might prefer a different style of editing.

ERA actually has 16 steps, but it's not really a limitation. Patterns can be chained and step resolution can be changed in several ways. Complexity or pattern length is really not an issue with ERA.

However it is what it is - a pattern based sequencer as opposed to something like a host's MIDI editor. This is not to say you can't make whole songs using just ERA for MIDI, you certainly can. You just nned to work differently than in your host.

Hi!
I appreciate good input !
No, I am not going to buy Dr-008, since I am already using NI Battery.
Looked into GURU..... bullcrap for Djs.

I looked into ERA, Will it take for example 10 min of straight recording ?

In cubase I just press record....... And go for good 15-20 min no stop !
That is what I need !

Whats stopping you from doing this in Tracktion? After selecting all the notes, and quantizing their lenghts to the nearest 1/4, you get nice little even blocks to edit . Its excellent for drums IMHO.
