would anyone be kind enough to explain the theory behind tuning (samples), how to do it, and what to listen for when tuning them.

i have a elementary understanding of theory (intervals, scales, chords), but i have never learnt how about proper tuning of instruments as i never had a acoustic instrument.

thanks

Samples come tuned, or you get a few samples and map them to keys. The sampler will do the tuning automatically.

if you have a c sample and a d sample you can map the c to c and c# and the sampler will do the retuning.

If one of the samples is out of tune most samplers have an editor with a tuner in it to retune that sample. Do it by ear or find a tuner Vst.

K-Tuner is working really nicely for me. Unfortunately it can't be calibrated, so you're bound to A=440Hz, but that's fine with me.

Some patches (such as a bass I recently posted) can't be tuned easily though, as they come with some pitch decay (pitch goes slightly down over time). In that case I usually just have a piano sequence running and play/tune the samples against it.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.
